ZoneAlarm version:8.0.065.000
TrueVector version:8.0.065.000
Driver version:8.0.065.000
AVG 8.0.176
I have been running these programs for the last few years. keeping them up to date regularly, The other day, Windows gave me a security warning popup in my taskbar, telling me that "Zone Alarm firewall reports that it is currently turned off and to click this balloon to fix the problem" I clicked the balloon and in order to fix the problem it turns on windows firewall, I turned it on.
However when I reboot, I get the same security message again. I checked ZA, and it appears to be on and protecting me. Everything on ZA checks out to be up to date, and working correctly, Except that ZA wants me to purchase a better version, that has a "OS firewall" and a few other things like real time protection from unwanted DL's.
All this came about when I DL a program from eminem.com called "desk site" I thought the flash on the actual site was advanced for the content. So I figured that the program would be just as cool, which it is, but I think that by allowing this program to run on my computer has disabled my ZA in some way.
Or perhaps it could just be that ZA has done something to push me to purchase the "Pro" version. Whatever caused it, I dont feel as secure anymore and I am afraid to visit my favorite porn sites until I get it fixed. Does anyone have any ideas on what may have happened, and how to fix it. (besides the obvious of reinstalling ZA. like a reset switch on ZA to make it like new again)..
Thanks in advance,

If the popups from ZA just started, I would be suspicious that you may have a piece of Malware installed as a result of your download.
Download, install and run HiJackThis
Run the Scan and save log file option
When the LOG file opens in NotePad, edit > Select All, Edit > Copy
Then, return here and in a reply post, Paste | | Account Disabled with 332 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: intermediate to advanced | | Ya, I never saw ZA do that. either uninstall it and reinstall or turn to a different program. what ever you do don't click it! | | Trusted Advisor - Gone but never forgotten with 9,280 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2000 Location: Whitby, Ontario | | Quote:

Check out the fact, that ZA may be working fine and that the PC is infected! | | Account Disabled with 332 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: intermediate to advanced | | that is very possible. If I were you I would use differnet products and get rid of those. They could possibly be infected. And if they are it is worse that they are not finding them. | | Trusted Advisor - Gone but never forgotten with 9,280 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2000 Location: Whitby, Ontario | | Quote:

So, you suggest uninstalling whatever is currently there and installing those products, without clearing (or at least checking) for any infections first? | | Senior Member with 231 posts. | | | | Ok sorry I didnt reply for so long,, Long days at work and little time to work on this problem. After posting I uninstalled the program that I DL, ( it was official from the eminem site, it just previewed live concerts and making of videos,, It was rather cool. ). But after uninstalling the problem went away. No virus No Mal-ware. All scans turned out ok. I think it was something in the program Where it somehow had internet access without accessing through ZA, and Windows realized it, but ZA did not.. Like a back door through ZA, (perhaps someone should look into the security risk).. I ran the hijack this and nothing was different then a scan I did a few weeks back.. Everything looks normal, except windows telling me ZA was turned off, and ZA said it was on and protecting... Reinstalling the program causes the same effect--??? Someone should send this one to someone who knows what to do with these types of risks..
But with the program uninstalled things are working.. | | Senior Member with 231 posts. | | | | The program came from a trused site, I clicked it several times, with no ill effects, I had a older hijack this log that I compaired to a scan with the program "desk site" uninstalled, and the logs are the exact same except for one thing that I know I added. Reinstalling the program gives me the same ill effects.. | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
