Question of Privacy
I have noticed that every time I log on - even when the PC goes into screen saver mode - I have a pop up that states local is requesting access to your computer and microphone - if you click 'ALLOW' you may be recorded.

I noticed that the pop up has the Adobe mark. When I clicked on the question mark accompanying the pop up, I was advised that this message did not come from Adobe themselves but from a third party.

It further advised that I should be given a reason as to why such information was being requested and for what purpose. It stated that clicking on DENY as I have been, may result in the application either not functioning at all or not working correctly. It also provided information for disabling the pop up.

I am concerned as to why I am being requested to provide this information and it's purpose. I have no wish for any images/sounds from my PC to be recorded for any reason unless it is with my permission and knowledge.

I have recently purchased a new laptop which has an integrated web cam, which I have not yet used, and wonder if this is linked to the pop up. I have two children, both of whom have access to the computer, and I naturally would not want to do anything to compromise their safety and security on line.

Any advice/information on this would be appreciated.

I should add that I have been using the PC for about a week, and have only had the pop up in the last 24 hours.

It appears to be related to Adobe Flashplayer: http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...s_manager.html

Note, the third party name may be "Macromedia" which is a part of Adobe.

The link appears to take you to the same site as the question mark on the pop up itself.

My concern is that it states It's important to understand that even though this dialog box is part of Adobe Flash Player, the audio and video will be used by an application created by a third party. Adobe assumes no responsibility for third-party privacy policies, actions of third-party companies in capturing audio or video on your computer, or such companies' use of such data or information..

The pop up I have aso states that local is requesting access as opposed to a particular website.

I am unclear as to the implications of allowing permission.

Do you have a webcam or microphone? If no... then dont be worried... just turn it off in startup.

My laptop has an integrated web cam, does it mean that this can be recorded by this 'third party' I am still unclear whether I should give permission to this pop up.

Basically, if it comes from the internet, if u accept there i s a risk people may see you on your cam? this comes up in chat forums too sometimes. If not, then if you accept you will probably allow flash to view settings and save ill asume. i have an intergrated cam too and i had it a few time.. i accept everything i dont care... lol [except virus's, malware etc] im not silly [so click deny and click "remember"]

As in most security matters, the default answer is DENY.
