My question is: what would you consider to be a fair price for a quality security application or suite? Are current prices fair? Are they too expensive? If the price was something you consider fair, would you still use a free application instead of paying for one?

A lot of that will come back if the rebates go thru, but I am used to spending about that much annually to either start a new product or maintain a subscription on an existing product. | | Account Disabled with 332 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: intermediate to advanced | | I don't think kaspersky is AS good. anything is better than mcafee except nothing. I would recommend going free becasue in this economic time of trouble americans need all the money they can get and save. why spend all the money on the same thing when you can get it free, example ms office pro-$700+, openoffice.org -free and i think it is better, it's fully compatible with ms. but try going free with avast antivirus and comodo firewall. i promise you wont be dissapointed with them!!! | | Distinguished Member with 12,148 posts. | | Join Date: May 2005 Location: Kokomo, IN Experience: More Input Please | | Free is good and can be used on many computers without breaking my bank.
So far .. All my problems have been caused my M$ and I don't know of any protection from them.
~$39 for some backup software that can fix anything is reasonable. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832200008
And you can use it for more than a year. | | Distinguished Member with 3,730 posts. | | Join Date: May 2004 Experience: Intermediate | | | | | Account Disabled with 2,239 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada Experience: Getting there... | | Personaly, I never pay for software EXCEPT for an antivirus. I just think you won't get a free antivirus doing as good a job as a paid one. It's too important to risk having free stuff with fewer definitions and updates, and lack of customer service. I use ESET Smart Security and I don't mind paying for it. If you can't afford at least to pay for an antivirus, you shouldn't even be able to pay for Internet access!
And, the economy is not a good argument. You should stimulate it instead!
My opinion.

karbo that is your decision! but remember this. i have never had viruses when totally free and i had all when i used mcafee. | | Distinguished Member with 28,050 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: uk Experience: Chocoholic | | Free for me apart from Malwarebytes which was a gift and money well spent i would add | | Account Disabled with 2,239 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada Experience: Getting there... |
