What is a fair price for security software?
We're all interested in spending as little money as possible and will or can use free security tools, if they are good.

My question is: what would you consider to be a fair price for a quality security application or suite? Are current prices fair? Are they too expensive? If the price was something you consider fair, would you still use a free application instead of paying for one?

Peace...

For paid, I would suggest you get either sunbelt vipre antivirus/antispyware. It's $30 for antivirus and anti spyware. http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/home-home-office/vipre/
Firewall is $20 http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-...onal-Firewall/
so it's $50 all together. you can download 30 day trials.
second for paid I would recommend eset NOD 32 security. It has eveything you need, It is $90. and a 30 trial. http://www.eset.com/smartsecurity/index.php

But I recommend more free because whenever I use a paid it lets stuff through. I have had 4 big viruses with the most expensive up to date mcafee. and avast home cleared them up. never had anything since.

I use comodo firewall pro http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html
I use comodo back up, comodo firewall, avast home and threat fire. they are all free and comodo is a "high ranking officer" these days.

Hey, I just paid $69 for Kaspersky. A lot of that will come back if the rebates go thru, but I am used to spending about that much annually to either start a new product or maintain a subscription on an existing product.

I don't think kaspersky is AS good. anything is better than mcafee except nothing. I would recommend going free becasue in this economic time of trouble americans need all the money they can get and save. why spend all the money on the same thing when you can get it free, example ms office pro-$700+, openoffice.org -free and i think it is better, it's fully compatible with ms. but try going free with avast antivirus and comodo firewall. i promise you wont be dissapointed with them!!!

Free is good and can be used on many computers without breaking my bank.
So far .. All my problems have been caused my M$ and I don't know of any protection from them.

~$39 for some backup software that can fix anything is reasonable.

And you can use it for more than a year.

Personaly, I never pay for software EXCEPT for an antivirus. I just think you won't get a free antivirus doing as good a job as a paid one. It's too important to risk having free stuff with fewer definitions and updates, and lack of customer service. I use ESET Smart Security and I don't mind paying for it. If you can't afford at least to pay for an antivirus, you shouldn't even be able to pay for Internet access!

And, the economy is not a good argument. You should stimulate it instead!

My opinion.

they have windows defender for free and windows live one care-paid. but later this year windows live onecare will become a free security suite for legit ms windows users. also comodo backup is free and i like it the best. i love all comodo products. also comodo firewall is fantastic but try either comodo antivirus or avast. avg isn't as good. avira is great too.

karbo that is your decision! but remember this. i have never had viruses when totally free and i had all when i used mcafee.

why????? Mcafee really is not that good. It constantly has issues and problems and it is sluggish and doesn't protect well.
and ok stuff like malwarebytes would be better for paid
