Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 somehow blocking some programs
Hi,

I got Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 on my family pc, which is a xp. We previously had the 2008 version, but it ran out so we got the updated one. I installed it, it scanned and found some viruses. I had em quarantined and then decided to check on my emails. Only thing is that it wouldn't show the hotmail webpage. I tested different types of web browsers, IE and Firefox, but the same thing happenned. I think that somehow Trend Micro affected it but I don't know how to fix it. The settings are on medium and home network. I played with it some disabling the firewall and antivirus to see what would happen, and still the hotmail didnt show. Strange thing is that when I logged in with the Windows Live messenger, it works, goes straight to the email but if I try thru the browser, I cant get it to show up. Any advice on what I should do?

go into the options and find your way to where it stores the policies and delete the ones that are for your blocked program

I tried that and so far, nothing worked.I did mess around with the firewall some but I cant figure out what protocols/ programs I should uncheck to get hotmail to show up. It came thru every once in a while, but most of the time, it would show the webpage address in the address bar with a blank page, or "Sign In" with a blank page. It does show up when I disable Trend Micro but that defeats the purpose of a good firewall. The good news is that I was able to fix the Earthlink toolbar to work again. I changed the firewall to a wireless network being that we use a wireless router. I still cant get thru to hotmail though. I can't even get thru when I click on the Windows Live toolbar. I used IE and it said that theres an error on the page so it must be a internet protocol blocking it or something, only thing is I cant figure out which one

I think you're right. When I first clicked on www.hotmail.com, a blank window showed up. But when I went thru the Windows Mail Live like I was signing up for an email address, the webpage showed up and interesting enough, Microsoft Corporation (US) now shows up in the address bar when I go there and the screen isn't blank anymore. It didn't used to before but I'm just happy that it straightened itself out. I tested it a few more times and still works well. I thank you for the advice cause it gave me 2 days to take a crash course thru Trend Micro's new software and figure out where everything is

It seems that Firefox works fine with it but IE still hasnt shown any progress.

Problem solved for one broswer for now

OK, what do you have ie8 beta or 7. I don't recommend nor does anyone, downloading beta programs they can screw up your system. Try checking for updates through start>all programs>at the top click windows update or in ie click help and windows update. or try reinstalling ie 7

IE6 was on the desktop due to my parents previously having some trouble with IE7 a yr ago. Guess they never got around to updating it. I just upgraded to IE7 yesterday and still hotmail wont pop up. Heres the interesting part though, heres the web address that shows up when I click on www.hotmail.com or type it in: http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=w...61523&id=64855

Heres the one that I bookmarked for the time being that works: https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...id=68692&wlu=1

I noticed that http:// only works every now and then while https:// works all the time and shows either VeriSign, Microsoft Corporation [US] or both. So you were correct about the program. For some reason, it can't connect to Windows Live or hotmail without https with Trend Micro open. Without Trend Micro, I can open up both https and http. Also, both IE and Firefox seem to react the same way to this.

Is there anyone that can help me with how the webpages show up like this, or on how Trend Micro can allow hotmail to come thru http w/o being blocked?
