Solved: OE + AVG + SpamBayes = confusion
I'm trying to get Spam Bayes to work on a reinstallation. I had it working well on the last installation when I was using avast, but for some reason on this new installation, I could not get the Resident Protection for avast to turn on, so I thought I would try AVG and see if it would work. It appears to be working. (At least it detected the test virus) However, SpamBayes does not seem to work. The configuration is as follows (This is on WinXP MCE (64bit), SP2).

Outlook Express: Popserver is localhost. (as per Spam Bayes instructions). Port is 110.

Spam Bayes: Pop-server is pop-server.wi.rr.com. Port is 110.

AVG: This is the default configuration. Pop-server is AutoPOP3, port is 10110, connection is "regular".

I am able to download mail, and I assume AVG is scanning that mail, although I can't tell for sure. Spam Bayes does not seem to be scanning the mail, as no messages have been tagged, either as unsure or spam. When I go to the Spam Bayes web infterface, there are no emails there to classify. The part that puzzles me is that I'm surprised that I'm getting mail at all, since Spam Bayes is the only program of the three that actually knows the server address to get it from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I guess I solved it myself. Reinstalled avast, and this time it worked. All is fine.
