Question about quarantining
Hello,

I have Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Classic as an antivirus. Everytime it detects a virus I always tell it to quarantine it. Then I go to the quarantine section of the program and the virus it detected is in there. I have a few questions. Is quarantining the best option to select when I virus comes up? Also, when the virus is in the quarantine section of Avira, what should I do with the virus from there? Is the best option to leave it in there or should I do something with it? Thank you in advance.

It's only a good idea in case something gets removed that shouldn't and can then be restored. It's probably good computer practice in keeping with the dictum that you should rarely as possible do things that are irreversible.

But once you see that it wasn't a needed system file or something else you need, the quarantine area can just be emptied. There are usually settings in the programs for doing that. But they use such a small amount of space that it probably doesn't matter. It's just a recycle bin for viruses.

Dear CAfantom,
Why quarantine a VIRUS at all? Seriously though if you want to be able to send a file to your antivirus company to have them analyze the file it found you still need to have it on your pc. This in turn requires quarantining so the file can't spread while you take the time to submit the file.

Also, if it's something like explorer.exe that was infected for example, it's a critical file needed to run windows, you wouldn't want to delete something like this lightly!
