How to open port 6500?!
Hey.

When I try to play Battle Stations Midway multilayer demo I get a message "please open port 6500 to accept incoming traffic" how do I do this?

Here are the Vista instructions:

Go to Control Panel > Windows Firewall
On the left side, click "Allow a program through Windows Firewall"
Click the "Add Port" button.
Give your firewall rule a name, eg "Midway"
Type in the port number.
Select a protocol - TCP or UDP

Since your game didnt tell you whether the protocol should be TCP or UDP, you may have to make another rule to also allow UDP.

Do you have a router? If so, you will have to do Port Forwarding on the router. The concept is for the router to accept connections for port 6500 and forward the traffic to your computer. As part of the making this port forwarding rule, you will have to tell the router your ip address. Most routers have a web page where you can set this up. If you can't figure it out, tell me the make and model of your router and I will try to look up some info.

If you don't use a router and you are directly plugged into your modem then the above firewall rule would open the ports you need. Perhaps your modem is a modem+router combination device? If your modem has more than 1 ethernet port then it is probably one of those.

Look on the device. If you don't see it, then it should be on the bottom.
