 | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | | | Little blank Word icon shows up Hi all ...
Recently I've been getting a little blank Word icon showing up as processing. Has a blue title top and the window is blank.
It doesn't show up in the Task Bar or Windows Task Manager.
The only way I know it is there is using old school of Alt+Tab to toggle amongst programs, i.e., Outlook, Windows Media (music), Word and Internet. Yes, I obviously highlight it to bring it up but it doesn't come up.
To use the Alt+Tab toggle method there has to be at least two programs open. I've tried all the combinations above. It shows up but I still can't get it to come to the forefront.
I can't afford to buy my Norton virus update so I downloaded Avast and did a "thourough" scan (6 hours). Nothing. Nada. Zip. It still comes back.
I can get rid of it by re-booting. It seems my computer slows down when it shows up. Thus if I can't find it I can't get rid of it.
Class, any thoughts or suggestions???? | | Senior Member with 1,588 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: An Alien,a misfit on Earth Experience: Intermediate++ | | Dear bgstine,
possibly a snapshot of what's on your screen may help! | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | | | Thanks for responding but what do you mean by a "snapshot of what's on your screen"?
BTW, I did the trial for Snag-it but can't afford to buy it now. I asked in this group earlier if there was a free/open source type of snag-it.

Here's instructions on taking a screenshot http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...creenshot.mspx http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/
But I think you're saying when you use alt+tab you see an icon like the one I attached?
If that's the icon you see then I'm not sure why you're seeing it, sorry ( I got that icon by just writing a quick program that would show up like that to take the screnshot for here),
But maybe some one who does will come by with an answer,
And I don't use any screen capture utility since I find for my needs that print screen is sufficient otherwise I'd suggest one. | | Senior Member with 1,588 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: An Alien,a misfit on Earth Experience: Intermediate++ | | My favourite snapshot tool(free) is Greenshot and can be downloaded from: http://greenshot.sourceforge.net/ .
Once you download the Greenshot and place the icon on the desktop, double click on it. Then it can be seen in the system tray (bottom right of the monitor page). Then open the web page you want to take a snapshot of. Right click on the green colored icon in the system tray. You will be provided with a choice list. I usually prefer the"capture window". Click on it.The web page becomes colored and a cross-hair mark (as a sniper get's to see ) appears on the web page. click on it.Then you get to hear a sound akin to a photo being taken!
Now you can see behind the picture of the web page snapshot, "Greenshot Image Editor". Click on "File"at the top left hand upper corner of the editor and click on "save as" in the drop down menu.. Then the picture will be saved in the "My Documents". Too many clicks, but that's the way to go, just try it once!
O.K. Taking a snapshot is one thing and sending it as an attachment in your post to TG.org is another thing. | | Senior Member with 1,588 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: An Alien,a misfit on Earth Experience: Intermediate++ | | In my previous post, you could see an"attached Thumb nail".Just click on it and you can see it open in a new window. If you can put the cursor on the picture, it will show-up as a magnifying lens.Clicking on it will allow you to see the window as i have shot it.
Now ,how to send it?In the "reply to thread section" if you scroll down, you can see "go Advanced". Choose it. Further scrolling down ,will reveal "Manage Attachments".Click on it. A new window will open. From there "select"upload file from computer". Next to it you can see "Browse". Click on it and choose the path to "my documents" where you can see a file named "Greenshot followed by 2009 and numbers". Highlight it and double click on it. The path will appear in the box in the "manage attachments". Now click on "UPLOAD"--This is real important! Once the uploading is over you can see the attachment. Now finish want you want to post and that's it! The thumbnail attachment (You can see it) is on view. I hope i have not confused you. One thing to remember though is, if you regularly need to send attachments, you're going to see lot of numbered .jpg files. i advise you to note down the number of the attachment before saving it to "my documents"when it appears in the "File" to be saved! | | Senior Member with 1,588 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: An Alien,a misfit on Earth Experience: Intermediate++ | | Dear bgstine,
IN my previous post, i have sent a thumbnail as to what you get to see, once you click on "manage attachments". The beauty is, if you carefully see the enlarged thumbnail, "My Documents" is right there on the left hand side. You just have to open it. No need to search! No pain, no gain ,i guess! You will surely get to like this freeware as you keep using it, no doubt about it! I have "Snagit", but Greenshot wins hands down! Best wishes. | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | | | Yes that is the icon I get. Like I mentioned I only see it when I do
