sygate personal firewall-repeating warnings
I have sygate personal firewall (5.6) on 3 different computers. About every 5 minutes I get a warning "NT Kernel and system file name (NTSKERNL.EXE) has been blocked from the network." I do not even have nt kernel listed in applications being monitored by the firewall. It is very frustrating as there is a beep every time the warning appears. This warning is appearing on all three of my computers. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got one win98 PC that is used to play old games, never goes online, and has sygate. Same message all the time. The program is blocked. Nothing is hampered. Just no way to disable the message. Goes off every 10 minutes.

Google for it. Typical answer.

Hopefully, "NTSKERNL.EXE" is not the real name of the file you are talking about. If so, it is not a system file and is probably an infection.

Have you tried simply adding it to allowed applications?

Look again at your applications and see what's blocked. That will trace it back.

Also, how long have you been running Sygate. Has it always done this or is it a new problem. If it's something that just popped up for the first time after years of use, you can't rule out a new or unwanted program trying to invoke ntoskrnel.exe.

I understand the attraction for running something that works as I use it too, but sygate is dead. I recall this question popping up on the Sygate forum before Norton bought Sygate and killed the product and the forum. Maybe try another firewall compatible with your PC's.

And more stuff from the past...

sygate firewall
Thanks for your reply. I have been using sygate for ages and this problem is relatively new but occurs on all 3 computers. I have nothing blocked on the applications. What free firewall do you reccomend?

Dear CaptnJJ,
Good question my friend! Instead of blindly advising you to install Comodo Firewall Pro (a very talkative one), i am posting below a link which may help make up your mind! http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-firewall.htm

Every ten minutes?
Why not remove it?

Sygate was bought by Symantec and disabled about 3 years ago so it hasn't had support for over 3 years. I certainly would not be surprised if it can no longer cope with issues and you need to move on to a supported firewall.
