AVG Free problem
Does anyone know how to read a AVG log file with problems?
Here's the deal. Had AVG installed, free edition, no problems. Just recently I noticed that the icon was gone from the lower right corner and if I would click on the AVG program from start, programs, nothing would happen. So I uninstalled it, then tried to reinstall it, and now it won't let me reinstall it.Error comes up saying another anti virus is already in- stalled (probabally AVG) and I need to remove it. I DID ALREADY!! Please help. Thanks as always, B-72. See attched log

Download "AVG Remover(32bit" at: http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Then installed AVG

It still won't load. Here are the messages I received:

Warning: Action failed for registry key HKCU\Software\Avg\Avg8 (Administrator): creating registry key....

Talked about Spybot S&D and AdAware/Anniversary Edition might be the problem... If you have them installed?

As a matter of fact I just installed the Anniversary Edition of Ad-Aware. Will uninstall it and try again, Thanks.

Well it looks like AVG installed.........for the most part. It loaded all of the updates too. Got a message saying 2 ERRORS (LAST TIME IT WAS 3 ERRORS) :

Warning: Action failed for registry key HKCU\Software\Avg (Administrator): creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005
Warning: Action failed for registry key HKCU\Software\Avg\Avg8 (Administrator): creating registry key....
Internal error. Registry handle has not been opened.

Don't know if this will create any problems down the road or affect AVG.

I was in the same sticky situation with AVG and it was solved in this forum.

Please go to page six in General Security and view under this heading:

The error is with your computer permissions. I feel this will cause problems down the road. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition has been having a lot of these issues lately....

First, we need to backup your registry:
Please go to Start > Run
Paste in the following line:
  • regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
Click OK.
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may turn to an hour glass for a minute.
Please continue when it no longer has the hour glass. You will find the back up on your main drive.



Go to Start - Run and type in regedit and click OK.

Expand each of the following registry keys by clicking on the + you see on the left side:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\

Right click on the Windows key under CurrentVersion and choose "Permissions". Under "Group or user names", select your user profile name as administrator (My Computer, if you did not add no name).

Below that under "Permissions for Administrators", by "Full Control" put a check by "Allow".


Remove AVG. Then reboot your computer. Installed AVG again. Make sure all security software is disabled before you install AVG. After you install AVG then enable security software...

Ok.......I got to the registry key and I'm at the permissions for windows box. listed in the box is: Administrators {Mouse\Administrators} Mouse is my computer name.
Creator owner
System
Users {Mouse\users}

Administrators {Mouse\Administrators} Has a faint check mark by Allow: Full control and Read.
Creator owner Has a faint check mark by Allow: Special permissions.
System Has a faint check mark by Allow: full control and read.
Users {Mouse\users} Has a faint check mark by Allow: read

Your "Permissions" are set correctly. Remove AVG. Then reboot your computer. Installed AVG again and see if there are any errors? Again, AVG are having issues lately..

Not meaning a "bait and switch answer", but I have had enough issues with Avg this last month for a lifetime and have resigned as a reseller so I am suggesting if you can't afford an antivirus program, try Avira free version, it doesn't have these issues and is really a better program anyway.
