My computer is infected?
Last night, after trying to download something in order to watch Lost, we started getting windows telling us our computer was infected and a giant "WARNING : dangerous spyware!" had replaced our wallpaper. Whatever was warning us there might be spyware was also opening IE to a Antispyware product and not allowing us to leave. When we tried to find online tech support we were redirected to random sites (not the tech support we clicked on) OR our search page would simply refresh. We eventually were able to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ComboFix to fix the problem. We also did an online scan which seemed to work as well.

HOWEVER, this morning our internet was not connecting. When I restarted the computer the giant WARNING sign was back and it is also taking me to that Antivirus XP Pro site. (RRrrrr) I thought this was all taken care of. Everything seems to be working perfectly fine EXCEPT for this.

Can anyone here help me or tell me how I can get this stupid Antivirus XP Pro site to stop coming up? I'm pretty certain they are the ones who have replaced my wallpaper with their stupid warning sign.

Also, I just checked and the option to change the background on my computer in the Control Panel has disappeared. It was there last night after I used the Malware removal program but now it's gone.

Do you have any antivirus or anti spyware programs on your computer to begin with?

The General Security forum is only for general questions regarding security software and things of that nature but not for actually removing malware as we have qualified helpers who are the only members who are authorized to assist with those matters. You can easily identify them as they have either a gold or blue shield beside their usernames. Please refer to this excerpt from the rules:

Quote:
Log Analysis/Malware Removal - In order to ensure that advice given to users is consistent and of the highest quality, those who wish to assist with security related matters must first graduate from one of the malware boot camp training universities or be approved by the administration as already being qualified. Those authorized to help with malware issues have a gold shield next to their name and authorized malware removal trainees have a blue shield next to their names. Anyone wishing to participate in a training program should contact a Moderator for more information.
I'm going to close this thread and ask you to repost in the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs forum for the proper assistance.
