Sounds like your AVG installation got corrupted somehow. Which version of AVG are you running?

EDIT: Ok, I might be mistaken. See if this helps.

Peace...

Ok, see if the above link helps. I've upgraded a couple of machines to 8.0.233 and had to configure the firewall to let the updated version access the Internet as needed.

Peace...

So, you turned off the firewall and ran an AVG update and got "binfile is missing"?

EDIT: Based on this and this, it appears there might be an issue with the AVG update site or the latest AVG update itself. Turn your firewall back on and try to re-run the update in a day or so.

Peace...

I've been getting the same 2 errors for a few days now.

I've just been waiting it out in hopes that a newer update will resolve the problem.

Try going to the AVG site and downloading the update files manually. Then go to tools and click update from directory and then click the folder in which u downloaded the update and then it should work

It's more of a temperary fix until the problem is solved but you can always go to the site and download the newest definition file.

There seems to be a few problems with the last update for AVG it has caused different problems for different people,

Does the error message give any other information about the missing files?

From what i understand the bin file is to do with updating and is possably not located on the computer but on the update server.

in the mean time you can update AVG manually by going to http://free.avg.com/download-update

I've been doing the updates manually - and then AVG is fine.
But once I shut down or reboot - it just comes back to the error again.
