Well, if the explanation of that code is right in that it means it's basically a "host not found" error, all you can do is try again. How long has this been going on?

Since about mid December. I keep trying over and over, but why would my anti virus be turning itself off?

Well, it's possible your machine might be infected with something that is blocking the Vista update. What security software do you have installed and when is the last time you scanned your system?

If you suspect Kaspersky, go to the kaspersky forum. Smart folks there.

But they may probably tell you to uninstall KIS2009 and see if the updates resume. Then see if it works after being re-installed.

I'm finding a LOT of comments on this error code online, most of which are dated December 2008 and earlier. Most involve ISA, Windows Server, or a proxy server.

I presume you can access the Internet ok. Are you using a proxy server of some kind? Can you check your Internet connection settings to see if a proxy server is configured? Is your computer connected directly to a DSL or cable modem or to a hardware router or is it connecting through another computer, using an ISA server or something?

Peace...

No im using no proxy at all. My connection is wireless. What is ISA? This seems to be a big problem because everything I have tried will not work, I even tried a system restore and everytime I done it(for different dates) it said it was unsuccessful?

It's the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration server. It gets mentioned frequently with this particular error.

Maybe KIS2009 has a firewall that is blocking Windows Update from contacting the update site.

If you can, look at Security Center and see how many firewalls and which firewall Windows reports is running.

I turned off KIS firewall and windows firewall, then tried it, again still with no luck. Can this problem be fixed?

Did Malwarebytes and KIS find anything during the scan? Can you try rebooting in safe mode with networking and see if you can update that way.

Peace...
