Kapersky Labs USA site(s) hacked?
This has been reported but not confirmed by Kapersky. White Hat hackers blog can be read here; hackersblog.org/2009/02/07/usakasperskycom-hacked-full-database-acces-sql-injection/ (I've made the URL unclickable but anyone interested can replace the http// if they're confident about their security software!)

Alternatively, read the story here; http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/02...romise_report/ I have no idea how much credibility, if any, should be given the to The Register's reports.

I suppose it would be a good idea to treat any emails from Kapersky with a certain amount of caution, at least until the company makes a statement about the alleged hack. Then again, what if they decide to send a reassuring email to all their customers?

Good point. I'm going keep my eye on "Kaspersky Lab Forum" if they keep the thread open or remove it for now.

Dear TOGG,
Must have been the reason why the KIS2009 in my pc suddenly got DE-ACTIVATED! It was valid till December 28th/2009. Now iam afraid even to phone them and forget about any e-mails from them!

For the time being i have installed Comodo Internet Security Suite.

Thanks a lot!

There is a report over at Wilder's Security Forums (in the 'other antivirus software' section) to the effect that Kapersky have issued the following statement;

"On Saturday, February 7, 2009, a vulnerability was detected on a subsection of the usa.kaspersky.com domain when a hacker attempted an attack on the site. The site was only vulnerable for a very brief period, and upon detection of the vulnerability we immediately took action to roll back the subsection of the site and the vulnerability was eliminated within 30 minutes of detection. The vulnerability wasn't critical and no data was compromised from the site."

No link was provided for this but I assume it could be found on Kapersky's site.
