Solved: McAfee issue
I have the new McAfee Security Center loaded on my computer. Has anyone ever heard of this program causing older programs to not run? I use Adobe Photo deluxe, an old but familiar photo editing program, but since installing McAfee it won't run any more. I'm fairly certain this is the problem since I uninstalled McAfee and the program opened immediately. Loaded McAfee back, no program. I posted a similar thread, probably in the wrong place. People looked but no response. I could really use some help with this one. Thanks

Sorry to say it, since you must have paid for it, but you should have installed something else than McAfee. It's a real system resource hog and far from the best AV software out there.

As for your programs not functionning, I don't believe McAfee is preventing them from working. You should check your McAfee settings to see what could be adjusted to prevent possible conflicts.

Dear Karbo,
I fully expected you to say "remove that Adobe product".LOLIt's also a resource hogger(TRUE too). Are there other photo editing programs out there to replace APD? Yes,Mcafee has fallen a bit behind, there's no denying that!

I don't think I've had programs that can't open because of it.

I appreciate the input Karbo, is there a different AV program that you recommend? If McAfee isn't doing the job I wouldn't be against going out and getting something better! And Perfume, I'm sure there are plenty of photo editing programs out there, it's jsut that APD is so darn familiar. I guess I'm a firm beleiver that "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" But then again, maybe it is broke??? I suspect McAfee because APD worked fine before, just seems like the logical culprit! Oh, and Jason, I like your quote

Personaly, I always recommend NOD32. It's really effective with it's great heuristic capabilities (ThreatSense), it's lightning fast to scan your computer, new virus definitions are downloaded many times daily without you even noticing it, and it uses a very small amount of system resources. So far, it has never interfered with any of my computer's applications.

there is a possiblity that McAfee might have blocked them as security programs do that due to some updates that are new to them for softwares like Adobe since they keep on getting different updates everynow and then. As u uninstalled McAfee and it started and it worked could have been McAfee..In such situations u should normally u should run there updates and it may resolve your issue and then configure the access in them for the blocked software and it certainly resolves your issue..the last thing that on can do is uninstall and reinstall McAfee and that too should work.

Dear JerseyBoy,
Down the line i have used ever since i was a kid (now i am just a lazy lad),Norton(Uncle's present), McAfee security (Mom gave me her card), KIS2009 (Convinced my Dad) and right now experimenting with Comodo IS. None of the A-V's or the security suites interfered with the software,EXCEPT KIS2009, which insisted i remove spybot S&D,before it would install! One point for ESET! I remember using McAfee the most(when it was most popular) and no hitches!

Good Morning,
Well, it appears that I did solve my original issue. I changed my AV software, since McAfee seemed to be the problem, to NOD32. So far what I have noticed is ALL my programs are now opening, Outlook is d/l my mail much much faster. All along I thought the problem was Office 07 I have been using McAfee for so long, I was comfortable with it, until Security Center 2009 anyway. Again, thanks for your help
