I had this problem once with an old version of Ad-Aware. I solved it by uninstalling and reinstalling it.

In the setting screen, in the update tab, click on "proxy settings" and make sure the settings are correct (if you are not using a proxy server, there should be no checkmark in "enable proxy".

Do you have a firewall? Have you given permission to Ad-aware to go through the firewall? You may want to temporarily disable the firewall and see what happens then.

Just my two cents...

Stop using Ad-Aware. MVPS.org has stopped recommending the software for malware removal due to poor real world results. They also have stopped recommending Spybot, I don't agree with that.

I recently posted a video tutorial on how to remove spyware for free. The programs I used were Spybot, Malwarebytes, and several others. I would highly recommed malwarebytes.

Again just my two cents.

Chaz.
