Talking Endless Rebooting
Hi guys,
My desktop seems to have virus in there as it is in an endless loop of the rebooting system. I was able to hold it a few times for a few min but everytime I try to run any spyware removal program it shuts down the system. I have disabled the auto reboot from my computer advanced setting but it is not working. My symentec AV and several other spyware programs are not working. Hijak this does not show anything, tried to run Combofix from a flash drive, Combofix does not run completely and just shuts down the PC. Now I can't even go to my desktop as it just reboots from the safe mode menu and start and end there so I can't reinstall XP pro again in another drive. I have very sensitive and imp data in my computer and would like to save it all before I do anything else. Is there any way I can stop from rebooting and then run spyware programs and try to fix the computer. I need it as soon as possible.
Custom made, P4, 1.5 GB ram, 300 GB HD, XP pro
Thanks, really appreciated,
GS

Do you have an Windows XP cd that you can run the recovery console from? If not you can download The Ultimate Boot Disk for free and burn to disk. You can then boot from the disk and run a variety of diagnostic tests on your PC. (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/)

If the PC is having problem due to a virus you may want to also considering purchasing the AVAST BART CD which allows you to run virus scan scraight from the bootable disk. You last option is to boot from a Linux Live CD and then run an online virus scan.

Hi Rollin,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I ran the bitdefender, kespersky and Avira rescue CDs. AVIRa and Kespersky did boot the pc and ran the scan but it stopped in middle with a grey mesh screen with no options. Bitdefender was able to runand finish but did not show any virus. I ran diagnostic from both xp cd and Ultimate boot cd which showed there is no hard drive. I was able to start the system with the xp installed in another portion of the drive and was able to see the drives in my computer, but I could not save any files. I was trying to copy files so I could make DVDs of my important docs. It does not let me copy any files any where in the system. I can start the system with xp in second portion but as soon as I click anywhere in desktop, it just shuts down or reboot in a couple of mins.
I chaged my second HD to a master drive and tried to install XP in there but it says no HD found. It does not give any other messages. Any suggestions. I know everyone is busy, but I would really appreciate an early response.
Sincerely,
GS
