Question Firewall ?
Ok I have Comodo as a firewall. I am just really confused as to what I should be doing with it. lol It says I have 0 outbound connections and 12 inbound connections? Is that something good or bad? But that inbound thing keeps changing it just went down to 10.
Also it says in another box 45 active applications running in memory and 428 files are pending review? What the heck am I supposed to do with those?
My security is set to safe mode.
Am I supposed to be doing something with this??? lol
Thanks!

Hi smoochxoxo28,

You can double click the tray icon to view the GUI.

Go to the Miscellaneous section and click on help which will bring up the help file. Have a look through and you should find answers to all your questions.

Dear JamesFrance,
On the face of it, your suggestion is the obvious one! I would consider myself a moron of the lowest order if i did not go thru' the help section in it's entirety before posting the above query! For example ,if you can elaborate on ports and how to configure them in CIS, you will be an enlightener and i welcome you to the task! Untangle the web and you are welcome to dinner in any elite Italian restaurent of your choice in NY! The bill's on me! That's why i am always fond of saying"any firewall is only as good as it's configured".Isn't it?

Although Comodo is considered one of the best firewalls, it's not for beginners. Even more advanced users don't exactly know how to configure their firewall sometimes. So, firewall companies should all take that into account and make their software more user friendly. More of a plug and play type of software for idiots.

My post was to answer a variety of queries for a new user. Any specific question on a particular point would elicit a different response of course.

A new version of Comodo Internet Security has been released about an hour ago. That has a default configuration which requires no input from a novice user, but allows plenty of firming up from a firewall expert to suit their own requirements. The new version is CIS No; 3.8.34623.468 and can be downloaded from the Comodo forum pending public release.

There will be very few queries about what to allow with this and those that appear will have guidance from Threatcast which is a new addition to the HIPS.

This new version uses extensive white lists to reduce popups, so is very suitable for beginners.

Comodo are making huge progress towards providing what karbo so charmingly describes as "More of a plug and play type of software for idiots".

Hi, yes I did go through some of the help section and well it wasn't all to helpful. Which is why I posted what should I do. When you go through those 400 files and try to figure out what the heck they are or mean or what they might be attached to it gets a bit confusing.
I am sorry I didn't mean to post such an ignorant computer question. Even with the help section some are not as computer savvy as others.
Thanks
Jenn

I had the same problem with the early versions of the Comodo firewall but, eventually, took the easy way out by having all the files listed for my review treated as 'my own trusted files' (or something like that) because I did recognise most of the names. Nothing nasty happened as a result so I got away with not being an 'advanced' user (although I never had as many as 428, more like 120).

There is a setting which stops the 'files pending review' list from being produced but I'm not certain what it is. I'm currently using version 3.5.57173.439 with the firewall and Defense + both set at 'Safe Mode' and I don't get any lists of files for review.

The version of the firewall I am currently using is the one that comes with Comodo Internet Security. I downloaded the full program but didn't install the antivirus component. When the upgrade mentioned in previous posts in this thread becomes 'final' I expect I will get 'nag' popups.

Dear smoochxoxo28,
I was having the same problem cofiguring the firewall settings in CIS!Then i right-clicked on the Comodo Icon in the system tray and a menu appeared. There you can see "configuration". Below that option you can see "Comodo-pro-active security", "Comodo antivirus security" etc.Just click on each of them and you will see a confirmation that"configuration has been successfully activated" for each of the features.Best wishes!

Hello perfume,

Either I'm not understanding you correctly (sorry if I am ) or you're not understanding what those configurations are for,

Theres no need to click each one of them to set up comodo,

See here http://forums.comodo.com/install_set...-t31552.0.html

You should select which one you want to use, I myself use proactive defense which is the full power of the defense+, Although you get the most pop-ups with this setting.

Hi Jenn,

If you look at your list of pending files you can select all by ticking above the list, then press 'delete' and they will be gone. I would suggest you change the Defence+ security level to Safe mode, so that you do not have any pending files again. This list is mainly there so that you can submit anything new you have downloaded to Comodo for checking and you don't need it. Safe mode now has few pop-ups as Comodo now have an extensive white list of safe applications.

I would not change your configuration from Internet Security to Proactive unless you want to answer many more pop-ups, however as I don't think you have the antivirus you could set it to Firewall Security.

The latest version is 3.8.64263.468 and there have been very many improvements since 3.0 which they have available there.

Although the current download from Comodo is for Comodo Internet Security, you can choose not to install the antivirus during the installation process. In order to benefit from ALL the usability improvements you need the whole program as you then get a default configuration which will generate very few queries, although you can make any changes you like if you want full control.

I had assumed that I would need the whole CIS download for the latest version of the firewall, but I don't intend to try installing it until the first 'real world' users have found all the bugs!

As I said in my previous post, I expect to get popups about the new version because I was 'nagged' at every bootup when earlier upgrades were available.
