potential unwanted program
Hello , my McAfee Security is telling me that I have a potential unwanted program detected.
When I first saw this the name was: MWS
the location was:C:\Program files\my websearch\ bar\1.bin\F3HTMLMU.DLL
I went to windows explorer found this & saw dates(12-18-2008) on this file & a few others files at this location. This did not perticularly mean anything to me.
I turned off & restarted my computer.
Again I had a warning of a "potential unwanted program dedected"
name: MWS
location: C:\system volume information\--restore(Ob7685E0-7A03-469E-A806-30E54E17E38A)\RP571|A0052948.DLL
I set up a restore point & was going to go to the first location where I had viewed the files & delete them. But I could not find them. I could not find "my websearch"
I tried to find "system volume informatiom". I could not that.
As best I know how I did a computer seach for both of the above files & found nothing.
My operating sys. is Windows XP Professional

Can you give me any advise?

Thank You, Ray

MyWebSearch isn't considered malware but can slow down your computer. If you Google it, you'll find plenty of links showing you how to completely remove it from your system.

And should I be concerned about the program at "system volume information"?

Isn't your McAfee trying to remove it?

Hi,n We reccommend that you remove any items from System Volume (Restore) by deleting the entire Restore Point, actually all old Restore Points....more about why down below.

System Restore Points are routinely deleted usually after malware is being removed on a computer, but there are other times when it is a good idea to delete all old Restore Points and then re-enable System Restore and create a new clean Point....

Here are the directions for just how to, read or scroll down and start at

Disabling System Restore <first step is to turn off Restore on all drives

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial56.html

Then, you restart, next turn System Restore back ON, and go and create the first new Restore Point, and from then on, Windows manages Restore for you.
