Hello zyon1980,

Why do you think there is a conflict?

Usually to find out you can disable one (preferably window defender) and see if you still experience problems.

I would be shocked if there is a conflict as Windows Defender does nothing at all except fail to update now and then. But my advice to you is you have little protection with both or either and you would be better off with free Avira or Avg for antivirus and Superantispyware which really removes spyware.

basically i think there is a conflict mainly because IE7 shuts down every once in a while. I get a pop up saying it encountered a problem and needs to restart.. . Is that malaware or a firewall issue? I dont really have many problems when i use Firefox however.... .

This kind of a situation arises when 2 security software conflict and thats when IE keeps closing/crashes with such a message since its a basic browser. Therefore u may uninstall windows defender and let the antivirus be there if the error still occurs then uninstall antivirus too and check, at times due to the several crashes that IE faces IE itself gets corrupt and need to be uninstalled and reinstalled since its very sensitive and then you may install the antivirus back again. And really dont recommend Windows defender to be installed.
Firefox is more prefered since it works better then IE and has lesser security issues than IE.

How do I unistall Windows defender? I cant seem to be able to find an option for that..... . Also, if i get rid of it, still experience problems and also get rid of my antivirus, wouldnt i then be completely unprotected while i test the system? Surely that could be computer suicide? Thanks for all your help guys, this is very much appreciated.

If in Vista you cannot, you simply go into Control panel, Admin Tools, Services, and open the entry up and disable it Then go into "Run,masconfig,ok,startup" and uncheck it also or you will get "nag" messages at bootup. If in XP just go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it.
