Question wpa needed??
I drive a truck and connect to the internet using http://www.slingshot.com Slingshot, a wireless modem. This weekend Leo mentioned to a caller that he needed to use wpa security to insure no one could see the callers online info. I'm wondering if I need wpa security and if so, how do I set that up? Thanks in advance for your help.

WPA is wireless networking encryption. That doesn't apply to a wireless broadband connection.

I think only if the modem has router capabilities, then encryption could be put on it.

Leo was likely referring to wireless networking, not wireless broadband. They're two completely different technologies.

a 89:
doublehelix is correct.

In the unlikely event that you are not in range of Slingshot, and decide to try your computer's wireless network adapter, wi fi, avoid the temptation. At present, no encryption is safe. The best you can do is WPA2 AES, with a 63 character password, and hope no one using a recently identified technique is nearby.

A Russian firm has demonstrated that they can crack WPA2 using nVidia graphics cards for the processing.
