Sygate Firewall Alert
I have been using Zone Alarm for quite sometime but have changed over to Sygate.

2.While it is blocking so many incoming signals as seen from the logs, the following alert was splashed on the desktop.

""distributed COM services(RPCSS.EXE) is being contacted from a remote machine (122.173.5.255) using local port 135 .......... Do you want to allow.......

3. Is there any special significance of this message and what should be done with it ??

Do you know that machine that is trying to connect to you? If you don't then don't allow it.

Of course, I don,t know. I am not on a network. Therefore, does it mean that all such permissions should be denied permanently ??

It's ok to deny it permanently.

Do you have a router? Or is your pc directly connected to the modem? It is best to have a router even if you have only 1 pc. That way, you won't get so many connection attempts, because the NAT feature will hide your ports for you.

Dear techno12,
lunarlander is dead right there! I am sure there was an intrusion attempt on your computer and Sygate has alerted you.Whenever,as a rule of the thumb, if the firewall comes up with an incoming port number about which you are not sure or aware of,just deny access!
Dear friend ,you have done a good thing by bringing up this topic, a problem which looks simple on the surface but has malicious intent underneath! Congrats!
