Smile backup?
i hope this is the right place to sk this? i have two hard discs, c and d. i use d strickly for backup, what i am wondering is, is there a way without diconecting cables to insure that once i backup my c disk that a virus or whatevere cannot write to my backup? in the old floppy days there was a button to chage so you could or could not write to it, is there a way to do this with the hard disk? im an older person trying to protect my system from myself and my not so inteligent antivity, sometimes i do stupid things and then i have a hell of atime fixing it and i just thought this would be a cure. Thanks for any response.

You can use Folder Lock. Some of its features are

Folder Lock is a fast data encryption and password protection software for Windows. It can simultaneously encrypt, lock and password protect your files, folders, drives, USB drives and even CD/DVD-RW.

Folder Lock creates encrypted storages called 'Lockers'. You can keep as many of your private files and folders in your Locker and password protect it with a single click. You can transfer, secure and backup these Lockers.

Lockers are even undeletable on the computer where Folder Lock is installed. You can treat Lockers just as you would treat them in physical world.

With Folder Lock, you can choose either to encrypt using 256-bit AES on-the-fly encryption or lock files, folders and drives anywhere on your computer.

Each Locker can contain your encrypted files as well as your personal list of locked items. Furthermore, Folder Lock's options like hack monitoring, stealth mode, data shredding, history cleaning & auto protection, portable USB autoplay feature and virtual keyboard can enhance data security beyond anything ever achieved. In addition, a locker's delete, move and rename are password protected to prevent data loss.

Whether it's privacy, data theft, loss, leaks or intrusion attacks. Folder Lock secures your data in one fell swoop.

But it is NOT free

Dear Billmex,
Your's is a very important question and i like the phrase you used"trying to protect my system from myself"! I am only a lad in late teens doing the same thing! Not mess up things. There are options which do isolate the C Drive, by creating a virtual environment in which you will be using the computer.
If anything un- towards happens( Virus attack, spyware causing damage etc), you simply reboot and the computer will be restored to it's original state! That's the state before the computer got affected! Iam providing below a link to a free software program which does exactly that, called Returnil: http://www.returnilvirtualsystem.com/rvspersonal.htm

Other options do exist like"sandboxie" where the web browser is sort of isolated (browsing made safe)and you can evaluate it too!http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewt...4777605fa8b4c2

That way, the chances of infecting your C Drive and thereby your D Drive are near nil!
