Virus scan help ?!?!?
Hi guys, this is my first post so I am sorry in advance if I haven't followed the correct protocol with this post.

My brother in-law has a habbit of clicking buttons that he shouldn't and also has an unhealthy obsession with interent porn. He has managed to get his desktop riddled with a worm of some sort and now, when he boots up his desktop icons don't populate and he can't access anything at all.

I was wondering if someone could talk me through connecting his desktop to my laptop and running virus/spyware removal on his hdd from my laptop. I'd ordinarily tell him to reformat and stop visting sites he can't trust but he has all the receipts for my nephews vacation etc on there and can't lose other items that he hasn't backed up.

Any help would be excellent, thanks in advance.

Dear cheekum,
1)your B-i-L has an OBSESSION to visit unhealthy sites. You may post any number of HijackThis logs, but what's to prevent him from doing the same thing again?
2)I am very sure that he needs to see a doctor or a counseller specializing in controlling(managing) this obsession. Out of affection for him,you want to cure the computer of his! It's like pouring a jug of water on a raging fire--won't help at all!

The damage is done! Your brother in law is interested in getting back his laptop into shape for reasons you know why! I don't think this site can offer any remedy!I am extremely sorry to opine on this topic!

Please do visit us when a need arises! Gracias

Perfume, come on!

Perfume is still right you know. He'll most likely get infected again and again. Those porn sites are really questionable when it comes to malware. But, at least it's safer than a c....m

If he's hooked and won't give up, why not intall one of the progs below. That way you can undo whatever he's managed to damage his pc with:

Windows SteadyState
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/sharedaccess/default.mspx

Once you have everything set up the way you want it, you can share the computer and rest easy. Any changes a user might make to the configuration or hard disk can be undone by simply restarting the machine.

Returnil.

The Returnil Virtual System Premium Edition is a powerful virtualization technology that completely mirrors your actual computer setup and it can create a virtual storage disk within your PC where you can save documents, data, and files while using the System Protection feature.

Thanks for the words guys. As said he will and does continue to get infected on a near monthly basis. Funnily enough he is the only meber of the family that does. I often question why my sister is with him in the first place.
Anyway. I got hold of a drive caddy and scanned his drive from my laptop. Seems to have done that trick. I got back into windows reset to an earlier date to make sure and installed him Kaspersky internet security.
I also looked into his history and blocked as many of the quesionable sites as I could. Hopefully this will buy me a couple of months of peace.

Cheers all !!!!

Dear Karbo,
It seems US revenue collections on money spent on porn sites exceeds the total revenue of ABC,CNN and Fox,etc!Does it tickle your imagination? See this link (Wonderful) :http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/internet-pornography-statistics.html

Dear Davec,
I strongly believe in the principle of "cash on the barrel"! No plastic money for me( real security reasons). Hey,i don't have a plastic card! I used to have a Credit Suisse Gold Card, but dad took it away!
