Solved: AVG vs. Avast
I have had AVG 7.5 for a couple years now, never bothered to go to 8.0. Now whenever it does it's automatic updates, it requires me to restart every single time--never had to do that each & every time before. So, now I'm thinking on changing to Avast since it has gotten such good reviews. New at this, do I completely uninstall AVG before I do Avast? Is it complicated (a computer friend put AVG on when my computer crashed before)?

Yes, you do need to uninstall AVG completely. AV products are sometimes hard to uninstall completely, so use the remover tool from here to do it rather than just relying on removing it using the add/remove programs list.

I have been using Avast for several years now, and I have never had a problem with it. It does require you to get a new serial number by email every year, but that's about the only annoyance if you can even call it that. Absolutely rock-solid and you sometimes forget it is even there.

Dear imgja,
You have not told us what you have chosen?AVG or Avast? To stir up the waters further have you considered Avira Antivir (Free)?
