rundll32
Is this supposed to be in startup? I ran msconfig & rundll32 showed up at one of my startuo items. Some research seems to indicate the legitimate rundll32 should not show up in msconfig. Do I need to be worried? I have WinXPMCE2005, w/Comodo firewall, Avira antivirus,Superantispyware & Windows Defender. All show that everything is clean. The reason I started looking was periodic extreme slowdowns both in normal windows functions & internet log on. Booting uo & logging off also very slow. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Let's have a look to see if they're legit.

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I'm not sure what that is. I was in msconfig in the STARTUP section and so one of the apps listed as rundll32. The string after it was not what you have listed in your query.

Well, everything in your log checks out okay.

And the ftutil2 entry is part of the driver for the Promise FastTrack raid controller.
