Cool Internet Options
Yes. When I double click on Internet Explorer, it will open displaying custom toolbars and then close....goes right back to my desktop as if I never clicked on Internet Explorer.

since u are using several security softwares that could be a problem..one of them has blocked IE due to an update that might have happned..its always recomended to have 1security software. would suggest uninstall the off them and check if your IE is working properly and then install only your norton antivirus w/firewall (are u by anychance using Norton internet security..whts the version 2005/6/7/8/9 do u have the prod key)
note if u have a subscription with norton and dont have the product key dont uninstall norton till u let me know pls

Can you access Internet Options in the control panel?
control panel > classic settings
internet options

If not present / accessible, boot to safe mode with networking.
Try to open IE

In normal mode, you could try opening IE with no add ons, which is different from Windows safe mode.
This assumes you are running IE 7

The above might work for IE 6 SP2, but I don't remember.

Internet Options
I am using IE7, OS Windows XP SP2. Where would I find Control Panel>Classic Settings> Internet Options? My control panel doesn't display that and I don't have Internet Options present in my control panel. I don't want to do a system restore when "options" was available since I have so many important sites on my computer. Thank-you for the links and your time.

l:
Which version of XP?
RIGHT click "my computer"
Left click "properties".
Yes, it can be important.

Control panel
Upper left corner, look for "switch to classic view"

This is important, because I may refer to other applets in the control panel. The items in the control panel are called applets; little applications.

Search your HDD for *.cpl . You will need to tell XP's search to include hidden & system locations, AND in folder options, > view > set XP to show / display hidden files & folders & unhide extensions for known file types.
At this point, you probably do NOT need to uncheck the "hide protected Microsoft . .."

Referring to any applets in control panel will not help her in this situation. ladyree will get confused.

My intent is not to confuse you.

1. What is the file version of Internet Explorer?
open "control panel"
In the upper left, look for "switch to classic view" OR "switch to "category view"
If you see "switch to classic view", left click that item.
If you see "switch to category view", your control panel is in "classic view"
Once in "classic view", open "folder options"
"view tab"
Select "show hidden files & folders"
uncheck, if checked "hide extensions"
At this point, you probably do not need to uncheck "hide protected . . ."
Left click "ok".

Some images, here.
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/display...indows_xp.html

THEN
open "my computer"
open "C:
Open "program files"
Open "internet explorer"
Look for "iexplore.exe" OR "iexplore"
RIGHT click "iexplore.exe"
Left click "properties".
Left click "version" tab
What is the file version?

2. If your PC has IE 7,
start > programs / all programs > accessories > system files
look for Internet Explorer [ no add ons ].
Left click

3.
Boot your computer to safe mode, by:
Shutdown PC
Turn on PC
Immediately begin tapping F8 key, once a second. The Windows startup menu will appear.
Use up / down arrow keys to highlight / select "safe mode with networking"
Enter
Log in
Acknowledge that Windows is running in safe mode
start > run
type: iexplore.exe www.techguy.org
[ note a space between ".exe" and "www."
OK

Does IE open?

l: I have confidence in you.
