Hi,

I would recommend you to download and use following softwares in addition to all the softwares you have.

1. Spybot Search & Destroy - spyware
2. Snoopfree Privacy Shield - keylogger detection
3. ZoneAlarm or Comodo - Powerful Firewall.

Windows firewall is not enough for security.

Thankyou
But not really sure here what does the same thing and do I need them all?
I use Windows Firewall but it was suggested that I use Zone Alarm
If I do so I will then have AVG and Zone Alarm
Do I still need Windows Defender ?
Or anything else?
My few months old computer is slowing up and I want to uninstall programs that are not necessary But not sure what they are

FWIW, this is my Vista Security and Tools configuration. I have run MalwareBytes, GMER, SuperAntiSpyware, CounterSpy, before, but see no need for them at this time in my configuration and usage.

Zone Alarm Windows Defender no AVG AKAJohnDoe ?
Is Windows Defender that good?
Quite like AVG.
Doesn't Zone Alarm have conflicts with Vista?
Read it somewhere
Know in Xp it used to block Internet Explorer a lot But was very good lol

I run ZoneAlarm AntiVirus (not the free ZA firewall). It has the Kaspersky V6 AV engine.

Quite honestly, I have never found any spyware on my machine with any Anti-Spyware detection software. I run Firefox with the NoScript and AdBlockPlus add-on extensions and have the ZA Fiorewall configured for High Security, the Program Control set to High, and the Advisor set to Manual. Plus, I am usually behind a router.

ZoneAlarm has worked fine with Vista for a long time. That is old FUD and can be discounted and/or ignored.

As for blocking IE, is that a bad thing? I actually have explicitly configured ZA to deny IE internet access without prompting me.

Thanks but you are losing me now lol Complicated
So can I make it simpler please lol -
So if I have AVG 8 what else do I need?
Windows Defender?
Windows Firewall?
Is that enough?
And consider Zone Alarm later?

Windows Vista Firewall is quite good, but a PITA to configure.

Windows Defender is also OK.

I have not run AVG AV, but see it mentioned often enough to expect it is probably adequate.

CCleaner is good, but be cautious in using any Registry Cleaner.

I do not know what "CleanUp" is, so cannot comment on that.

MBAM, run as a periodic ad-hoc scanner is OK.

The built-in Vista Defrag is actually pretty good, but whatever you like.

I do not feel you need AdAware nor do you need SpyBot.

You might want to consider Backups.

Not for most people. However, one of the things I like about ZoneAlarm is the ability to configure outgoing connectivity by program, and the ease of doing so. It is possible with the Windows Vista Firewall, but it is not easy.

I also updated my prior post since you last referenced it.

Is your PC behind a router, or directly connected to the internet? Did you leave UAC turned on?

Hi yes my pc has a wireless router Don't understand settings so don't know if it has security
I know it needs a password to access it and says securitty enabled Is that like a firewall?
I leave UAC switched on yes. But automatically click ok when it tries to block things So does that achieve anything?
I ran Shields Up security testing off the net and it said I was secure.
Just basically want to set pc up securely as best I can and then enjoy using it
