password protection
i read in pc world that you should use a password protection software for 1. your password and 2. for your "personal question" to verify that it is really you logging in. they referenced Schneier Password Safe. Do you all wonderful people recommend this?

Yes, Schneier Password Safe is a good password program.

Another very good one is KeePass Password Safe. There's no way I'd remember all of my usernames and passwords without one of these programs.

Hi mom:
stantley is more wonderful than I am wonderful.

I do not recommend password safes.

I use an Excel spreadsheet, which is just as secure / insecure.

One could also use Notepad, or Open Office's spreadsheet.

Any data stored on your computer can be accessed. Just ask the NSA.

Anyone with physical access to your computer can access any / all of your data, given sufficient time.

It is relatively easy to quickly clone your entire hard disk drive without accessing Windows.

The ONLY way to secure your data is to keep your hard disk drive secured; in your possession.

Yes, there are methods we can employ to reduce access to our data.

In addition to using a PW manager, change your PW AT LEAST every 6 months. Make your PW as strong as possible. Your ATM card permits only 4 numbers. Some wireless encryption passphrases permit up to 63 characters, and a mix of letters, numbers and some special characters.

Best of success.

Tell inky RF says hello.
No, I do not know inky. But this is an example of how easy it is to find out information about someone.
SO, do not use "inky" in any of your passwords or secret question answers.
If your secret question is: "What is your favorite sports team?", supply an answer in gibberish. It doesn't take that long for a computer with off the shelf hardware to crack a 63 character WPA2 encryption key. Determining the answer of your question takes less time.
