Exclamation Solved: AVAST Proxy setting
I have just started using Avast home edition. The tutorial mentions proxy settings as localhost port 12080.

What is the purpose of this? Can I not use the default "no proxy" ?

A proxy is a program (like AdSubtract, which is now defunct) that stands between your computer and your ISP for the purpose of filtering something (like ads). Chances are you have no proxy, so you would connect directly, not thru a proxy. So, yes, use no proxy.
