At this time i was not able to do what chrome57 ask me to do. Rain forest123, i was able to do what you said.I went to system tools> IE[ no add ons] and clicked on that .The message that came up said, IE is currently running with add- ons disabled. Rain forest you said after doing that to test , I don`t know what that means.the info you requested is, I am running IE7 home and service pk3. You asked me if i was doing anything on my computer prior to this error message, I did. The day before I ran this programs, from cnet.com, Abexo free registry cleaner and system cleaner5, to optimize my computer. I guess I am still to new to computers and maybe deleted something I shouldn`t have. I have been running, for a long time, programs to optimize and to clean with no problems. The only other thing that happened was, that I got an opps message from google, I am sorry I don`t remember why. What I do remember is, I followed the link on this message and it told me to disable a link and I did. Thinking later that if it does not work I could go back and able that link, but I could find how to get back to that message.I am not sure if that was the reason I am having this problem. thanks for your help, my home page is working very slow. I will change my home page to yours now. | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced | | w 59:
No problem.
After opening IE with no add ons, in the address bar, you will see:
about :NoAdd-ons.
Delete that and type in: www.techguy.org
Press "enter" on your keyboard.
AH HA! Yes, registry cleaners can cause many problems.
start > programs / all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore
Open System Restore.
Create a restore point. Call it: rain
When finished, return to system restore [ no need to reboot at this moment ] and select a date on the calendar before you ran the reg cleaner. The dates that have system restore points are in dark / bold [ default color is blue ].
Left click a date. Left click on a restore point. Make careful note of all that you do.
Before restoring your computer, please read:
About Win SR http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...w_03may19.mspx
Using Win SR http://www.ehow.com/how_2109205_perf...paign=yssp_art
Windows Recovery Console http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q307654 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial117.html
Seriously consider installing the rec console. We will tell you how to use it.
If system restore goes awry, you will need to access the recovery console [ it can also be accessed from your REAL [ not OEM system recovery CD ] Microsoft Windows CD.
Note: Some OEMs provide an operating system disk which is essentially a Microsoft Windows CD that has been modified by the OEM and labeled by the OEM.
You can do this, waxer59!

System restore is not working. I also went to safe mode, to see if it would work there, and it does not. Yesterday, I went to safe mode and ran the following programs to see if they could help, as you know now they did not work-- Sdfix, Rogue fix, ccleaner, antivir, wise disk cleaner and wise registry cleaner. I use Revo uninstaller, when I want to delete programs I don`t want anymore. The reason I brought this up is, the other day I deleted a program and I didn`t delete the whole thing. i then went start. run. and typed regedit, so I could go into the registry, which I did many times before. I deleted the program and now I am wondering if that caused any problems. I do have Hi jack this if you want me to run it. | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced | | Editing the registry can be useful.
Editing the registry can be fraught with disasters.
What happens when you run system restore? Please provide a step by step narrative, along with any messages or error messages you see.
How far back did you go with syste restore? Are there system restore points that are from earlier dates?

I went onto system restore, there are 3 options--restore my computer to earlier date, create a restore point and undo my last restoration. First time I did what you told me to do. I created a restore point labled it rain. the problem was it was the next day 3/6. So that wouldn`t work, because I needed to go back to the beginning of this month. Then used second option, restore my computer to earlier date.I then pressed the box for 3/1, no response.Pressed the box for 3/2 no response. No matter what date I pressed I wouldn`t get a response.System restore was frozen, is the best way for me to describe it. You asked the question are there system restore points that are from an earlier date, answer is yes but the system is frozen. Is there a way to fix system restore?? One other question I would like to ask you is-- this warning I am getting about Regsvr32.exe. Did I delete the dll that is needed and if so is there a way to reinstall it?? Thanks again for all your time you are spending to help me. Do you need a HJT scan?? | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced |

#11 | error message I got your email, here is the answers to your question. Before I do that, I have some info on system restore.SR is working, I got that wrong, but there are no restore points in the march. This problem occured 3/3/09.On the calendar, you have an option to go back to the previous month. That option is not working, so that why SR is not working. QUESTION- would you know how to create a restore point before3/3??
1. version of IE ans #7
2.when did you install it ans- it came as an update at least 1 yearago
3.have ever installed IE7 or IE8 beta ans NO
4.what happens when you open IE with no add-ons. ans-- same warning comes up
5.what happens when you boot to safe mode and open IE ans-- I get a message saying IE can not display the webpage. That also answers your question #6
7.when I change my home page to yours, I still get the same warning
8.When did the issue begin ans-- 3/3 after running the following 2 programs--system 5 cleaner[ to optimize my computer] and abexo free registry cleaner
9.which version of windows ans- XP home with service pack 3
send a screen shot is not working for me.I followed your directions and some of your steps could not be done ie: after left click paste, next step is file>save as, was not an option. When I returned to the thread and left clicked " go advance" nothing came up on my screen. I am still new to most of what you are talking about. Did I do something wrong?? I am going to write down what the warning says:
to of box, in blue says RegSvr32
under that is a yellow warning sign, to the right of that is the followin
No DLL name specified
usage: regsvr32[/u] [/s] [/n] [/;[:cmdline]]dll name
/u- unregister server
/s- silent; display no message boxes
/i- Call Dll install passing it an optional [cmdline]; when used with/u calls dll uninstall
/n- do not call Dll Register Server; this option must be used with /i
the bottom says OK
thank you for all your help. I hope that I answered all your question right and gave the info you need | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced |

Just to clarify. I, Rainforest123 did not send you an email message. I do not send email messages to TGF members. TGF sent you an email message, as part of your membership to TGF, to notify you of a response to TGF. See TGF for a detailed explanation.
Sorry, I do not [ this is a JOKE, as in I am trying to be funny ] have a time machine. A system restore point is intended to be a "snapshot" of your registry and some of the files on your computer. Files that YOU create are not affected. SR is not intended to serve as a backup of your computer. SR is intended to try to help you return to a point in time when your computer was working well. SR works some of the time. For more information on SR, please read the links I provided.
1 & 2. Thank you.
3. Thank you.
4. Rats.
5. & 6. What kind of internet connection do you have? If high speed, does your computer connect via ethernet or USB?
7. OK
8. I think the registry cleaning messed up your registry.
9. Thank you.
10. Open Paint, as previously described.
open IE, to obtain error message.
After pressing the "print screen" or similar label
Left click "paint" on your task bar
In Paint, Left click "edit".
In Pain, Left click "paste"
****Does your screen shot appear in Paint?
If so, In Paint, not the image, which might also include a menu bar", left click "save as"
I will try to do some research.

#14 | error message as you saw, with help from a friend I sent you a screen shot, I hope it is what you need. I understand what SR does, my question to you was to find a restore point before 3/2. That`s what I can`t figure out . This is a different way of communicating and sometimes things get lost in the translation. I thank you for your patience and I hope you can help me resolve this problem. One other question is regsvr32 a virus.I saw some web site that called it a virus and gave instructions how to delete it. I would not do anything until I wrote you. They suggested to go to run> type msconfig. goto start up and uncheck it.Which I did, but that doesn`t do anything | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced |

It is not possible to create a system restore point for a moment [ date & time ] in the past.
Sorry, the image is not present.
I will report the situation to the forum Administrator. ANY file can be infected. Sometimes, virus & spyware writes will create an infected file, give it a legitimate file name, but put it in a location [ folder ] that is different from the correct location of the file.
On my Win XP PC, regsvr32 [ actually regsvr32.exe ] is in C:\windows\system32, plus a folder beginning with $ and a service pack folder.
If you want to search your computer for regsvr32, you need to:
1. set your computer to show hidden files & folders; unhide extensions for known file types & display / show hidden operating system files.
See: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...l62.html#winxp
2. To search in hidden & system locations:
Use Windows Search feature > More advanced options to search for " filename.ext". To do this, go to Start -> Search and click For Files or Folders....
Click All files and folders.
Type in the name of the file under "Search by...criteria."
Click More advanced options and check these options:
"Search system folders"
"Search hidden files and folders"
"Search subfolders"
Then click "Search" to look for the file(s).
Replace "filename.ext" with the file for which you are searching, in THIS case regsvr32.exe .
See:
page 368 at http://books.google.com/books?id=Men...#PRA1-PA368,M1 Immediately after searching, if you do so, reverse the changes in #1.
