Question iolo to microtrend
I have a Latitude C640 laptop running Windows xp professional. I had Iolo Sytem Mecanic 7 pro on it but did not like it. so I purchased Trend Micro Pro. Iolo is being difficult to remove ans when I do get it removed I can no longer access the internet. There is good wireless signal strength but no connectivey. Repair does not work. I am guessing Iolo is taking some program with it that need to stay?
Then I try to install Micro trend...
first when I installed it it went in but would not activate, however it received updates. SO I contacted Microtrend. They told me what to do but when I next started the computer it was gone. So I tried to re install it. And all it will come up wit is uninstall. I click on it and supposedly it uninstalls it but when I again try to install it doesn't . it uninstalls again.
I have been trough regedit folders, program file folders and add and remove not to mention running search for all including hidden folders,
and I wind up using restore to get back to were I started.
Why do I keep loosing my internet when I take Iolo out?
why wont micro trend install?

Have you scanned for malware with a malware scanner of some sort? Anti-virus is not enough and won't find most infections.

As far as the connection problem goes, after uninstalling Iolo (whose registry cleaner causes a lot of damage and may be the problem here), go to Start > Run, and type:

cmd

In the command window that opens type:

netsh winsock reset catalog <ENTER>

to reset your Winsock, and then type:

netsh int ip reset reset.log <ENTER>

to reset your TCP/IP stack.

Then reboot the computer and try to connect.

I tried what you said. I typed in the first command line and clicked enter and a black box with a blinking curser popped up for all of about 2 seconds and then disappeared. thats all it would do. I could not get to typing in the second command line.
Trying to get iolo out and microtrend in has been a pain. every issue i get around seems to bring about different issues.
It is running windows xp pro and i would like to run pc restore but i know all things will be lost. We bought this lap top as refurbished. It did not come with disk to re install drivers ect. If I run the pc restore how will i get the drivers back in?

You will not lose very much if System Restore works. It will not remove your programs or personal files, and if it doesn't work as you expected, you can undo it and get back to where you are now. But I mean System Restore and not PC Restore. Run SR from Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools.

So try it. Try a recent restore point first. If that doesn't work, go back and use an earlier one.

I was going to try pc restore but i guess the computer does not have it. SOme of them didnt. I dont know what to do. Every problem solved creates two more.
Mirco trend wont install right . So I completely uninstalled iolo in regedit, program files, add and remove and search. Then I loose the internet connection, I have good signal from the wireless, but no connectivily.
Then micro trend wont install, I did a windows install cleanup utility and removed it. Then it almost installed . Got most way through and it stopped saying there was seriouse driver error and gave a error code. I asked micro trend about the code and they said to install it w/out the fire wall first. so I tried and it had complaints about the antivirus.
Now when we open the security center it shows both iolo and micro trend.
and neither works.
so we did a system restore. All the old problems are back.
when we bought the computer refurbished it did not come with any disks so I can not reformat the drive and re install windows from disk like ive done my desk top.
not sure what to try now.

Open Disk Management. You may have a recovery partition with the Windows installation files. You should have gotten them in some form when you bought the machine. See if there is another partition on your drive besides the main one.

Right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.

Also, check in C:. Sometimes people put the installation files in a folder on the hard drive. If they are there, you should see an i386 folder inside.
