Spy Sweeper Runs VERY slow
Ever since upgrading to version 6 (I have now upgraded to 6.1), Spy Sweeper takes about 8 hours to run a quick sweep and 30 hours to do a full sweep. I am using Vista SP1. I have tried numerous times to contact Webroot tech support but have gotten nowhere with them. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this to happen? Thanks

Has SS ever run, on your Vista SP1 box, with better results? If so, what changed?

I am sorry to learn about your experiences with SS tech support. I have not contacted them in > 1 yr, but at that time, the service solved my issues.

Have you:
1. uninstalled & re-installed SS?
2. run SS in safe mode?

Which AV program do you use?
Which, if any, other AntiSpyware programs do you run?

I wish I had an answer to your dilemma, L.

Please post a copy of your most recent SS scan and AV scan.

Tried the reinstall- actually have had the same problem with all versions of 6.xxxx, SS does not run in safe mode.

Is your Vista 32 bit or 64 bit?

Do you have SS or Spy Sweeper w/ AV?

Were there any error messages when you installed or uninstalled SS?

Did you follow these steps to uninstall & re-install SS?

Check the event viewer for errors at the time you uninstalled / installed SS.

Check the event viewer.
start > run > eventvwr.exe
OK
Maximize screen.
On left, left click "applications". Look for Symantec / Norton events in the right.
Do the same for "system".
If you find an entry, left click the button with 2 pieces of paper. That will copy the information to your clipboard. Then,

paste into notepad and / or this thread.

I am using Symantic Endpoint Protection and no other AntiSpyware programs. Windows Defender is disabled.

Which Anti Malware scans did you run before you installed SS? It is, although unlikely, that you have malware on your PC that SS has not detected, or that you had malware that corrupted SS's install [ and thus a registry entry that remains after SS is uninstalled ] and continues to plague SS's performance.

I have been using SS since reinstalling Vista.(and before that, too) The problem occurred when I upgrades to a version 6.xxxx. I did not have the problem when using any 5.xxxx version. What do you think? My feeling now is that I won't be renewing my subscription in July unless Webroot can come up with a fix. I will try an uninstall again to see what happens. I have not yet done that with 6.1.

I run AVG IS on my Vista PC. I have no experience with other AntiMalware software & Vista.

Keep us posted as to the results of your PC's performance after uninstalling SS.

Before you uninstall SS, consider
open task manager
processes

performance > resource monitor

Run SS
Find out if the burden is on your CPU and / or RAM

On processes, find out which service is using your ram & cpu.
