I can't save changes to security settings

Hi I can't seem to save changes to security settings, which is really annoying. Everytime I click enable, when I later check, whatever I have enabled, is back to disable. In fact I don't seem to be able to save changes in internet options. I click apply, I have even restarted, but it reverts back to before the changes. Any ideas please?

Are you on a home PC or using a PC on a managed network such as at college or at work?

Which version of IE are you using 6 or 7, XP (Pro or Home) OR Vista?

What exact error message is prompting you to re-check your security settings?

Dear manc,
If you are using IE version 6 and having these problems, an upgrade to IE7 should be most helpful! Checkout this system integrity tool thumbnail, where you can check IE settings.
