Solved: Your system does not have sufficent memory to run this application
I am trying to install a 'free' Mcafee software from their website, but I get the following message: Your system does not have sufficent memory to run this application.
Of course, i have enough memory on my pc! The Mcafee is a free add on to my O2 broadband account. I have contacted my broadband supplier and they suggested contacting Microsoft. Any help would be lovely.
I have XP.

Hi Alan, and welcome to TSG.

How much memory do you have installed? Did you have any other programs open when you tried to install the McAfee software?

Hello and thanks for the welcome!
I have many gigs of space left and all programs were closed when I tried to install.

Exactly how many gigabytes of memory do you have installed on the computer?

EDIT: When you say you have gigs of space left, are you talking about the amount of free space you have on the system hard drive? The wording of the error message that you give sounds like it is reporting you do not have enough System RAM (Random Access Memory) installed on the motherboard to run the program.

I spoke to a technician commected to my broadband supplier and he went through some checks. He said my pc was fine.He also suggested to contact Microsoft, to see if there was an issue with my operating system..maybe it was not compaitble with anti virus download? it all seems strange to me?

Really? Would that be in the form of an external memory?

don't know anything about those, don't have 1 & haven't read up on em either, might ask around here with a new topic. i'm sure it'd work tho 4 other programs u wanna download, but wouldn't do any good 4 a security system etc i don't think...unless u leave it plugged into ur pc all the time. sounds like u have some research 2 do or maybe time 2 buy a new computer

You may want to do some research to learn the difference between the high speed electronic Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer's motherboard and the hard disk drive used to store the operating system, applications and your documents and other files. The two are not interchangeable.

You have 128 Megabytes of RAM installed on your computer's motherboard. As mentioned by wtxcowboy, you need a lot more RAM on the motherboard.

128 MB may have the absolute minimum needed to run Windows XP and maybe one or two small programs when it first came out. You need to check the specifications for your exact model number of computer to see what maximum amount of RAM it can support as well as the exact type of memory module needed. Some memory manufacturers have on-line memory finders that let you enter the brand and model number of the computer and they suggest which of their products will work in it.

EDIT: If your computer is real old, you may discover that it may be difficult to find compatible memory modules and that they are very expensive because they are no longer in high demand. In that case, you may want to seriously consider wtxcowboy's suggestion of looking for a new computer.

Unless you have multiple partitions on the hard drive or a second hard drive installed on the computer, you do not have "plenty of gigs spare." You have about 954 MegaBytes of spare storage on the hard drive and that is less than one Gigabyte.

I don't think so. Increasing memory requires adding memory modules to open expansion memory sockets on the motherboard. If your computer has USB ports, you probably could add an external hard drive for more storage space.
