Do you absolutely HAVE to have AVG? There are other free alternatives. My personal choice is Avira AntiVir.

Dear Mattytun,
Yes,AVG has gone commercial and also down south!LOL.

I completely agree with hrlow2, that when it comes to a free A-V program to which Anti-spyware capability is added, you have Avira Antivir standing tall!

My experience with AVG(Short but sleepless) also buttresses the IDEA that AVG is beset with problems galore! There were die-hard fans of AVG once and you just have to search this forum to understand the new,new problems they are facing after upgrading! Why do you think AVG has come out with an "Uninstall tool"?LOL. On a serious note, let the Mind rule the Heart, this once!Best wishes!!

Dear Sniper,
Right again!

I just want to say that I too , have used AVG for years . I have now switched to Avira and I have been completely happy with it. Too bad , but AVG is just not the same anymore. It was time for a switch and I will admit that for myself , old habits die hard.

AVG 8.5 is free. You can buy a paid for version that has a few more bells and whistles, or you can get the free version, just like always.

If you want to get the free version, go to this page:

http://www.avg.com/special-download-new-avg-8-software

and click on the button that says "download AVG Free."

I frequently get a window to download AVG 8.5, but I can not tell if is my free version or a blurb for the fee version.
