i need some input
okay, so first things first. im not positive that i posted this in the right area (if not my apologies) okay now moving along to my issue, i leave my pc running almost 24/7 and occasionally turn it off just to give it a little break. but recently ive been hearing things as i sleep coming from my computer, not from the computer itself, but the computer speakers. like the little noise windows makes when you click something and its loading it, along with other noises of the sort. and every morning when i wake up and look at my computer, my icons are all re-arranged up in the upper left corner of my screen, and i set it back to how i normally have them (running down the left side in columns) and its fine all day until i go to bed then i hear the noises and wake up the next morning with my icons re-arranged again in seemingly the same order as the night before. any ideas as to why it may be doing this? my norton virus protection has been expired for 3 months or so now i havnt had an opportunity to renew it, but there is no sort of problems or slowness or anything of that sort while its running during the day. any input would be appreciated, thanks!

I have a similar thing. Is this while the computer is in stand-by?

Jason08,
I too have faced the op's problem twice in four months. KIS 2009 is active and i make it a point to switch off the PC when not needed. Do installations of softwares or even upgrades cause this? Like the op, i like a neat desktop with browsers, music players, security software,Ccleaner and Auslogics defrag and Defraggler(yes,i have both) in a particular order. Any help is most welcome!

Actually, now, it seems to be almost daily that I get it the noise coming from the speakers after it is in stand-by.

Dear rizzle45,
It's a Hobson's choice indeed! Either you turn off the PC or stop sleeping at nights!LOL.I am splitting at the seams! Can't you hear my laughter(Just kidding)? One day, when you visit Paris,i'll take you to the top of the Eiffel Tower and say "sorry" and if you refuse my apology there is always a chance you may just miss a step and slip and fall from the top!lol. The real problem may be your unprotected computer. You should have at least downloaded the free Avira Antivir or made a more smart move and used ESET's Nod32 free one month trial run as an interim measure! You may be wondering from where this guy picked up so much English. My dad worked under president Chirac and now President Sarkozy as an Ambassador to various countries, that's how!

Dear Jason08,
Probably a hardware prob.Booting under the "last best config. that worked" MAY do the trick if it's a hardware issue?
