Solved: Cannot open any program or file on desktop, cannot click on taskbar and start
Hi! I urgently need help!

I couldn't open any program, folder, or file on my desktop. I also couldn't click on my start button or taskbar. What to do? Are my files at risk? :O

Have you been changing something with the registry editor?

i dont think so.. im not really tech savvy. what i did today was:
1. download a software-driver from hp so i could uninstall the software on my laptop (because the printer wouldnt scan)
2. install the new software-driver
3. new software-driver worked
4. install a new antivirus (without deleting the old one -- i was thinking preventive)

and the problem started...

And now You have no control over the PC when in safe mode and not. For me it is a registry problem. You can try connecting you HDD to another PC and saving your valuable information and then format and install. That is just my opinion.

If the problem is in the registry, there will be no problem for the files (like mp3, documents etc.). You don't sound stupid! You don't have to know everything! Is your computer still on guarantee? If it is, you can't (you better not) open it. And that way you can take it to the proper service.

no it's out of warranty already and i dont really know what to do with it so i thought of asking around. my friend was telling me that he's hesitant to ask me to plug the installation cd in for fear that i might accidentally delete my file (i dont have any back up, you see).

You'd better take out the HDD and transfer the info onto another HDD.
