Kaspersky Online Scanner security certificate?
I used to use Kaspersky online scanner on a regular basis, but I've been getting a weird warning about their security certificate lately. It says there's some "error in initializer", or something like that. Unsure, I canceled the download, after which my browser completely froze. Said it was running in Task Manager, but nothing moved.

I'd like to use Kaspersky again, because I understand they're the most reliable in finding viruses. I currently have Symantec, which found a trojan (bloodhound.pdf), and quarantined it, but I don't trust Symantec so would like to get a second opinion, so to speak, and make sure that my computer really is clean.

Anyone know what's going on? Thanx.

I would think that error is just a transmission error while downloading the antivirus program. If you can verify that you are going to the correct URL for Kaspersky then you should be fine.

Eset's NOD32 has as good a reputation as Kapersky so why not try their online scan? (after reading the Terms of Use); http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner

If the scan runs OK that might suggest that there was a problem with Kapersky's servers when you tried their scan. If, on the other hand, you get similar problems with the Eset scan, that would suggest that the problem may be with your browser or its settings.

Thanx. I finally managed to get on the Kaspersky forum, and was told that the security certificate on one component is out of date, and that it has been fixed. However, the date it was reported as fixed was before the time I encountered the problem. They don't seem to be too worried about it, nor that refusing to continue downloading crashes my browser.

I loved Kaspersky, but as a novice geek I don't feel confident that I can tell if something like this would be a threat. In any case, I expect that this sort of issue would be dealt with quickly and reliably by a company like Kaspersky, so at best am very disappointed that they don't see how this could freak out the very people who need a reliable AV program the most. I certainly wouldn't buy their full package after coming across this problem with their online scanner.

I'll check out the other scanner. Thanx a bunch for letting me know about it.
