Removing Firewalls
Hi, recently while I was disabling Windows Firewall since I was going to install Comodo's Firewall I saw that my computer still had two other firewalls enabled that I shouldn't even have anymore. So how do I get rid of these since they don't show up anywhere that I have looked.

Here I took a screen shot so you could see what I am talking about excatly. Specifically, Norton Internet Security and Shaw Secure 2.0 7.00.

Any help will be very much appreciated

They don't show in Add or Remove Programs?

If not, try the free Revo Uninstaller or the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

Go to Start / Run / type services.msc

Try to locate them in there and disable them in the right pane.

Also, go to Start / Run / type msconfig

Under the Startup tab, do you see any entries related to them? If so, uncheck them.

Did you use CCleaner to clean your registry in the past?

Ok I just did both and I still cannot find either of them.
I'm starting to wonder if it might be just an error, but yes I have used the registry cleaner recently.

Security software has a significant footprint on a computer. The chances of getting both applications off clean with no trace of them in Add/Remove Programs or an uninstall utility is slim.

I don't think those firewalls are still running or even on your computer. Try the Norton Removal Tool (but chances are it won't find Norton at all) as suggested by golferbob and install Comodo.

I really don't think firewalls conflict like antivirus programs. I guess different firewalls on the same computer can co-exist peacefully. Hope im not mistaken

Actually firewalls do conflict.

Though I have read that windows built-in firewall might be alright since other companies that make firewalls would try their hardest to make sure their firewall wouldn't conflict with windows firewall, but I still wouldn't recommend it because if that was true then why would the other firewalls automatically disable windows firewall when you install them.

Just to clarify though it is alright to run a hardware firewall (router with NAT or NAT+SPI, etc) along with a software firewall (comodo, zonealarm, windows firewall, etc)...these days it's actually the preferred way.

But you should never run more than 1 software firewall.
