Solved: Cannot uninstall Avast!
Hello,

I just recently completed a clean re-install on my laptop and the first thing I did was install Zone Alarm as a Firewall. Then, I tried installing Avast! as my AV, and it seemed fine. I did a computer scan, then my computer rebooted. After that, I tried to re-open Avast! and my computer crashed. I rebooted, and it crashed again. Then I tried to unistall it, and my computer just froze. After that, I tried running in safe mode to uninstall, and my computer just froze again...

Please help! I think I might have to do another clean re-install, but I'm not sure...

Did you use the Avast! Uninstall Utility?

What happens when it crashes?? does it reboot?
If so when your next up and running go to System Properties, click on Advanced tab
under Startup and Recovery click on Settings button
under System Failure, Untick Automatically restart
OK

Next time the system crashes, make a note of the STOP error codes and any file names mentioned and post those details back here.

I dont think Avast is the cause of your troubles

WOW, thanks for the quick responses everyone!

Phantom, I was unaware of this separate uninstall file. I will give it a try.

Jack, when it crashes, it just freezes. The screen goes blank, and I still hear my laptop running, but it just stays black. And when that happens, I turn it off by holding the power button.

Also, where can I see those error codes and file names when it freezes?

Thanks again for the quick responses guys!

You could also try a chkdsk /r.
