Solved: Mysterious Bar.
Does anyone know what this thing is in the attachment that crosses the screen?

Right clicking on it doesn't render any useable options or information and it's on every webpage though it appears on each one randomly as I scroll up and down. It last about 2 seconds and disappears.

Dear needafix,
if you are using IE8, then check whether the"security" and "privacy" under the "tools" and "Internet options" are set to "medium-high". I am posting below two thumbnails which will show how my settings are under "Advanced" under "Tools", though i don't use IE8 much! My personal preference is the latest FF3 with all the added security add-ons!

The cold war between Microsoft and Google is no secret! You may additionally run a spyware(SAS) and a Malware (MBAM) detection tools and see if any funny business is going on under your nose!

IE is 7.0 but I don't use it. Both of those, security and privacy are medium high.

I use the most recent versions of FF and Opera.

I'm only getting this effect in Opera.

I use Norton 2009 and MS Windows Defender, Hijackthis and Ad-Aware but nothing ever comes up except maybe a tracking cookie or two.

Here is a HyperCam2 .avi video in the attachment. I can make this whatever it is appear by scrolling up and down.

Ah ha, I figured it out.

Opera/Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Browsing/Show Scroll Marker

was check marked.

Unchecking that got rid of it.

What is that and what is it for anyway?

Must serve some purpose besides an annoyance.

Dear needafix,
This tickles me! Opera is Gizzy's favourite! I think she can crack the mystery!!

Are you happy with AdAware? Many of us have seen system slowdowns and some even had system crashes, particularly with the Anniversary edition!

Anyway all's well that end's well!

Who is Gizzy? I have heard that it was Goofy's favorite browser though.

I like it because it starts fast and has better screen rendering though I have a list of things that should be swiped from FF and used in it.

Ad-Aware Anniversary is a slow a bulky but I've not had any crashes out of it. I don't leave it running all the time and I took it off auto start.

Here it is what that is for:

Opera Scroll Marker

"The new Opera Scroll Marker makes it easier to continue reading when you scroll through a Web page. At the end of the page it will indicate the previous position of the bottom of the screen so you can easily see where to continue reading."

@perfume - I'm actually a he not a she.

Hello, I'm Gizzy. (not sure who Goofy is though...unless you're talking about the character from disney.)

Sorry I didn't notice this thread earlier, (I knew the answer)

I actually only found out about that feature about a week ago while trying out Opera 10 alpha,

It's turned off by default before Opera version 10 so I never noticed it before (I've been using opera for months and I'm still learning about new features)

It's as it's name implies Scroll Marker it's used to mark where you were while scrolling so you don't lose your place if you're reading something online, like perhaps on a forum.

in case my explanation isn't that clear here's more.

Opera Scroll Marker : Scroll Marker is a new feature that indicates the the previous position of the bottom of the screen after you scroll, this making it easier to continue reading. Now you no longer have to hunt for the line you were reading before scrolling. However this feature is turned off by default.

And this one.

EDIT: - I see you found out what it's for now, Guess I was a little slow with posting.

Dear Gizzy,
I am really sorry for the mistaken identity! Kindly accept my apologies! What are your thoughts on Windows7 RC(Release Canditate)? I've read that the MS folks have found out that still Windows XP Pro is the "hot" fav. among many users and are incorporating the option to use the features of XP in Win.7 RC!

Don't worry about it.

I tried windows 7 for a little while in a virtual machine,

Not bad though I'll still stay with Windows XP for a while.

I don't think it's all that different from vista really just a few changes/improvements/features.

I saw that XP inside windows 7, I haven't tried it though, it's mostly just Windows XP inside a virtual machine so if you have any old programs that work on windows xp but wont work on windows 7 you can still use them, which sounds good.

Dear Gizzy,
Thank u! I really appreciate your thoughtful comments on Windows7 RC! So, it's sort of glorified version of Windows XP OR a slight improvement on Vista. Think I'll also stick with my trusty XP Pro, and wait till the froth in the beer mug settles!
