Modem activity
I have a Netgear N wireless modem connected to the DSL modem/router. I've noticed that the blue activity light flickers almost all the time. Even when the computer is in hibernation. My AVG antivirus and windows firewall are enabled and have reported no problems. There is no one within range to hich hike on my system even though there is no modem security encryption enabled.

Is this something to worry about? What is causing all the traffic?

Hi:I am assuming that you meant Netgear Router, not modem.
I have a dsl connection going through a router.
I just powered off both of my pc's and the modem activity light blinks.I think your answer is that a broadband connection is always on.Which means to me that the modem is basically staying in contact with your ISP/internet by sending, what I would call a "receiver ready" command to signal that "hey,I'm still here and available for traffic"
I think that is pretty standard. The only way to prevent that is to unplug the modem.
Just FYI.No matter how secure you feel,I would encourage you to enable at least WPA encryption on your router.

Thanks Pedroguy. I do know I should be using a more secure network, although it would take a seal or Marine Force recon to get close enough to get on my wireless broadcast But at the time I'm configuring a new net setup and had some difficulty with it so disabled it until I'm not having to reinstall a system a day. I just thought I'd never seen that much activity on the router before. Thanks for the reply. Dave.
