I really don't know if 4 is better than 3. I personaly have version 3 and renewed recently to 3 again. I've read about a few bugs in version 4 here on TSG so I decided to wait a few weeks or months before updating to 4, just in case. Version 3 has never let me down so far.

Dear jumbo 1,
What phantom010 said is true, let others test it out for you,so that you can make an evidence-based decision! Let the froth in your mug of beer( French) settle down a bit!LOL

PS: I know for a fact that German beer is chemical-free! Mark Knopfler sang in my ear!. My best wishes.

The NOD32 and ESS Forums/Fora? at Wilders Security; http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=88 has been full of posts from people having problems with Version 4. In many cases they have been sysadmins struggling to apply the upgrade over networks.

I haven't seen any figures to indicate whether ESS has more or less problems than the plain AV, nor as to whether the problems are OS specific ie: XP being more or less affected than Vista.

What does seem clear is that Version 4 is a major upgrade with several new features and, whenever a software manufacturer attempts that, there will always be 'casualties' due to the infinite number of hardware/software configurations that are out there.

In my own case the upgrade to V 4 went without a hitch and all I noticed was a minor delay at startup plus a slight slowing down during definitions updates (which probably wouldn't be noticeable if I were on broadband) or if Eset didn't update three or four times per day!.

Just thought I'd add a statement of the blindingly obvious, namely, that as far as the NOD Forum is concerned, only the annoyed users will bother to post.

Generally speaking, those that didn't have any problems with the upgrade will form a silent majority.

Hi Guys
Know it's generally not accepted to butt into someone else's thread,
but what I've read here is relevant, and doesn't warrant starting a new
thread.
Have upgraded from the Nod32 30 day free trial version to purchased version 4. Found the trial version effective, so will just have to wait n see how the new version performs

Dear abloke,
You're a gentleman! How frequent are the updates as the KIS2009 sends out hourly updates! Best Wishes.

Dear phantom010,
I guess we should add this "very frequent updates" as another difference between the free and the paid A-Vs!

Does SAS(free) provide daily updates as it provides to the paid version, as i have been downloading quite big updates since two days from the SAS folks!

MBAM is disappointing with this. It updates only once a day in the paid version, unless you do it manually.

Avira free updates many times a day as well.
http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php...&postID=775315 <-- A complaint for too many updates.

I found that with a quick search, most likely the same with the other AVs but it's late and I don't really feel like searching right now,

I think that poster is actually running the trial version. My free version won't let me set update frequency shorter than 24 hours in the program. However, I have it tweaked in task scheduler to run every hour.

Hello Davec

That's a possibility, when I read it I just saw that the person said free version and also said the personal version which is the free one where as the paid is the premium version,

But it's been a few months since I used avira so I just installed it and you're right,
I didn't know about it not allowing shorter time than 24 hours, Though nice tip about using the task scheduler to run every hour, since it uses the same definitions as the paid version than it should have as many daily updates as the paid.
