folder password
Hi, I have a couple of large folders about 20gb and I want to password protect them and I know Vista does not have that kind of feature so I'm wondering what kind of 3rd party software is easy to use?

Something easy to use like a simple enter a password when accessing a folder and nothing complex like truecrypt.

Dear sob3d,
For folder protection and to some degree of encryption, i am providing a link below, which gives you a wide choice of freeware and shareware! Take your pick! Best Wishes.

Hi,
You could also look at Axcrypt (freeware), independent review at TechSupportAlert:

I downloaded Axcrypt last night and have not had chance to use it in anger yet. But it looks pretty good and easy to use.

But it does not protect folders and sub-folders, merely each individual file within them.

I would also like some sort of password/encryption on the folders themselves so they cannot be navigated without authorisation.

I could always make some sort of zip hierarchy with password. But I think zip password crackers are plentiful arent they?

I would also like to be able to read/write my own data on the fly, but prevent a trojan corrupting/moving or deleting my stuff.
Maybe I am just asking too much and will have to setup some proper automatic backup system that runs daily.

Will continue to hunt around (Axcrypt was the first one I looked at)
Truecrypt next on the list.

btw If I had Axcrypt setup with auto decryption on double click for me, if I picked up a trojan with my permissions or Administrator's could the trojan then decrypt my auto decrypt files?

(This is a home PC, I am also Admin. if I choose to log on as such)

Just out of curiosity, what is the need for only specific folders to be protected? Would it be possible to create separate user accounts and password protect yours and make files and folders accessible to only your profile?

Thank you all for replay.

Anyway, I share a computer with lots of people and I really don't want to create multiple accounts if I have a choice.

About folderlock, is it a program where it requires the user to set the password every time the user exists the program?

you need to use folder lock software as mentioned above. there are many softwares with name folder lock. but remember man, some folder lock programs may harm your pc or may harm your files and folders. so consider using them at your own risk, heres a link to a folder lock program my friend used with no prooblems http://darfuns.com/folder-lock/
