Thumbs down Remove Nortons Rescue Disk
I haven't had any Nortons Program install on my pc in a long time. Was using AVG 7.5 until they said it is no longer free.

I have a conflict with McAfees Virus program. It said I must remove Nortons Rescue Disk. Can't seem to find the program anywhere on my pc, not even in the registry.

I need help

Hi sacameron,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Please follow the steps below to properly remove the Norton Rescue Disk.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

The next steps should be completed while booted into Windows Safe Mode.

1. You will now want to make sure that Windows is set to show all files. To do this click Start->My Computer->Tools->Folder Options.

2. Select the "View" tab and check the Show Hidden Files and Folders bullet and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and click "Ok."

3. Next, find your hard drive in My Computer and right-click on it, choose Search. NOTE: If the name of the Search box says Windows Search Results, then please scroll to the bottom on the left side frame and click the Click here to use Search Companion link.

4. On the left-hand frame scroll down until you see More advanced options and click on it. Please make sure the top 3 check boxes are checked and the bottom two unchecked. In the All or part of the file name search field type this exactly (including the comma) Norton, Symantec and click Search. After the search is complete, find all Norton and Symantec folders it displays and delete them one at a time, but please do not delete any Symantec folder in My Documents (if it lists in the search) as it contains product keys. If you receive an error that says the file is not accessible it is most likely already deleted and located in the Recycle Bin, and not a concern.

When you have completed these steps, reboot your computer into normal Windows mode and see if you can now install McAfeee.

Thanks,
Mike
