windows xp. how can i stop the outbound emails from or through my PC, not sent by me. Pop up mcafee virus scan says emails with potential worm activity are attempting to send emails. When i click the mcafee virus scan icon which is also appearing it shows emails being scanned and sent continuously. From a reply to my question about this earlier i have gleaned that it is address spoofing for spam to be sent . Do i have to buy and install someting to remove this activity, i have stopped sending emails in case i infect others. Dont have a clue what to do. Thank you, very dim charnock

Sounds serious if you are now a spambot. Needs fixing.

Here in the UK, we have a weekly, half hour BBC TV programme on PC and tech news.
They did an exclusive on this subject recently. See clip at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ne/7932816.stm

Also, have a cruise round their website for general interest.
(if outside UK, maybe only the International video links work)

I use Avira from avira.com free anti-virus which I find very good.
(never run two AVs at same time, turn mcafee off if you want to try it)
Also see a lot of references to SpyBot/mbam/hijackthis/combofix.
I did try combofix in spite of dire warnings to only use it under supervision by a moderator. Created my own restore point first, but it makes another. Didnt do me any harm.
(download triggers a virus warning- APPL/PsExec.E. Allow it.)

Also check the malware forum on this site. Good luck.

Thank you so much, honestly it is just rocket science to me. I am in the uk, have just viewed the bbc site you reccommended, scary stuff.
Will deactivate mcafee and have a go with avira when i pluck up the courage to try! It takes me forever to navigate this site, old dog new tricks etc. Thanks so much.
