Question Potential theft/hacker
I will try to make this short everyone:

My computer system is protected by McAfee Security Center. December 2008 my bank stated that someone from Bed, Bath and Beyond was trying to get into my account..they did not have expiration code...I requested a new card and never used BBB again..

Two days ago the fraud dept. with my bank called again and said that an employee armed with my NEW debit card number again was trying to access my account..they did not have the expiration code..again I have to request a new card..

my bank said the breach is not their system..I would like for someone to tell me if they can how did this @@@ from BBB get my NEW # if I never order from them again? How can I protect my computer if I am already protected? I am a widow and I am out of my depth here....HELP..Thanks..

Let's check to see if there is malware on your computer.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

How do you know the breach occurred on your computer? Obviously it's not Bed Bath & Beyond's fault if you never used the card there. Any of the places you used it could be the source of the theft. Or it could be a friend or family member. It happens.

I see I left that important fact off of my post..I ordered on line from Bed, Bath and Beyond once in October 2008..
The first attempted breach: December 2008
The second attempted breach: last week..

Tried the HJTsetup.exe...only took me to the third step: gave me the option of Browse, Install or Quit...

Did not give me the Fourth step of Continue to "Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue"

You said you received a new card and never used that new card there.

It's highly unlikely that malware on your computer is the source of this problem even if there is indeed something on your computer. Most computers have some type of malware, but that is rarely the source of identity theft. I'd be looking elsewhere for the source of the problem.

Follow cookie's advice.

Just for general info I was defrauded last year. $4000+
Dont use online banking (I use the phone), dont have any card details on my PC.
Got my money back in the end. It was a hassle though.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
