Router firewall or Norton 360 firewall?
Currently I run Norton 360 on my PC with the firewall turned on. I also have a Draytek 2800 Security Adsl2/+ router which has a firewall (or firewall features) but currently disabled because it is on in N360.
Which is better? I assume that if I intend on having NAS etc, it may be better to turn it on in the router and off in Norton?

Thanks

Hi sevilla315,

First, you probably mean NAT (Network Address Translation) as NAS stands for Network Attached Storage. A hardware firewall with all of the ports stealthed is probably more efficient, but there are issues for either approach.

Read my post about firewalls in the Networking forum here. It is post#3.

Since you run a Windows system, I would not think twice about running both firewalls, i.e. if properly stealthed at its ports, your hardware router (packet filter) can act to prohibit inbound attacks, and your Norton 360 firewall can probably be setup to prevent outbound call-home attacks for any malware that would be able to get into your computer otherwise.

I run both a hardware firewall and a software firewall.Wouldn't have it otherwise.Have had it setup this way for years with no problems.I run the GRC Shields Up test occasionally and I am in stealth mode.I feel safer this way.
