AVG Anti Virus Free Edition and Avast Home Edition are the best free ones. I like them better then norton personaly. you can get both at download.com (affiliated with cnet.com so you know its a safe download). They both get high ratings from users and the editors.

Here are some I have assembled. In addition to those mentioned above. You will want only 1 each antivirus, firewall. multiple anti spyware programs. okay.

www.grisoft.com Free AVG anti virus program (Use only 1 AV)
www.lavasoft.com Free ad-aware spyware removal program
www.spybotsearchanddestroy.com another spyware program
www.zonelabs.com Free firewall (use only 1 firewall)
www.outpostfreewall.com Free firewall for win98
The above are all available on:

I also recommend MBAM. It scans for spyware and removes any infections that is found.

Avira antivir personal edition and malwarebytes' antimalware are the best.
Use both of them.
